There has been confusion about TB 24.x not offering an ESR branch, and also that prior 17 ESR users are updated to 24.2 per bug 947476.

Updating the respective web pages to explain what's going on is advised.

good point. I've seen a couple reports of confusion, and also on IRC.
I merged more getsfn topics into https://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/topics/wrong_version_software_update_notice
It should also be clarified if organizations can count on the usual 2-cycle overlap despite 24.x no longer being an ESR release (despite coming from the comm-/mozilla-esr24 repositories); i.e., would the next switch-over between branches occur from 24.9.x to 31.2 or just 24.7.x to 31.0?

This is largely fixed as of the last release.
If further changes are wanted, then the files can be found here:

Patches and tweaks welcome.
