I like that. We need to make sure that accidental activation like bug 973217 can't happen though. Perhaps some kind of timeout for the duration of the opening animation?

Related to this: if emulating traditional menus (at least, on Windows) the whole menu should dismiss if the mouse-up part of the "single click" is off the menu panel. However, newer applications that have a "feature menu" (like Chrome, or the ribbon-menu Wordpad/Paint 'File' menu), don't do this (they leave the menu up).
