This is a bug that will track the migration of Mozilla Canada (and all WP subdomains) to our new WordPress Multisite installation. We are doing this to ensure security and consistency across all Community IT-hosted websites.

The cooperation of the maintainer of this WordPress site will be crucial in getting this done. I have requested information from the person who appears to be most involved, but please let us know if there is someone else who controls it.

As part of this process, we will need to know what plugins are necessary, as we will have to reinstall them as part of the transition. Some may be incompatible, so flexibility will be required in some cases.

As for first steps, can we first get an OK from the current maintainer of the WordPress site for the eventual transfer to our WordPress Multisite installation?

For mozillacanada.org, only plugin is feedwordpress

For to.mozilacanada.org, it uses All in One SEO, Google Analytics, Google XML, WP to Twitter, and Sociable plugins.

All in One SEO Pack: http://wordpress.org/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/ support doesn't appear to be totally official, but developer has indicated support in forums (?)

Google Analytics: http://wordpress.org/plugins/googleanalytics/ doesn't appear to support Multisite, but there are a number of alternatives that do, including http://wordpress.org/plugins/google-analytics-mu/ (✓)

Google XML: number of Multisite-compatible plugins, including http://wordpress.org/plugins/xml-sitemap-feed/ (✓)

WP to Twitter: http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-to-twitter/ doesn't appear to support Multisite, and finding a Multisite-compatible plugin will require some more investigation. Consider using an RSS to Twitter service instead (X for now)

Sociable: http://wordpress.org/plugins/sociable/ doesn't appear to support Multisite, but there are a number of alternatives that do, including http://wordpress.org/plugins/hupso-share-buttons-for-twitter-facebook-google/ (✓)

Can find some better ways to handle this. Maybe we could ask websites team or whoever knows a lot about SEO to help us create a platform where all hosted blogs are SEO friendly?

Absolutely loads of these plugins. Should be easy enough to find one :)

If you ask me, the absence of the current SEO plugin is not a showstopper-- if there's a friendlier alternative out there for the new platform, I don't mind using that.

WordPress Multisite is no longer a solution we are considering. We are looking at other ways to move our WordPress sites on shared hosting and VPSes. Closing this accordingly.
