977101 - Progress bar behavior doesn't really convey progress and Firefox feels like freezing

Ever since bug 917896 landed I feel that Firefox for Android has become really slow and hangs a lot when navigating. This is just due to the fact that even on Wifi connecting and loading takes a long time and there isn't any steady progress.

In my experience so far, this really impacts the perceived performance. I tried to become accustomed to that change and gave it some time but I really just can't. Loading pages feels sluggish and Firefox seems freezing :(

I think that bug 970721 might fix some of this but if there is not response at all before the (possibly encrypted) connection has established then we should do something about that.

Yeah. I do hope we can find a way to get to a place where the progress bar feels more like the original designs: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=867633#c1

So,
- Never completely stopping dead
- Starting slowly and then quickly progressing the rest of the way across the screen

It might mean we need to do more work to try decoupling what the progress bar is showing from what is actually happening on the page, or faking parts of the animation, or something else. At Time said, remember this is all in the interest of improving perceived performance, and not about showing users that Firefox is sitting around waiting for something to happen on a page.
