Hi John and Tauni- We want to update (and move) this page https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/mobile/sync/ for the Sync relaunch with Fx 29 on April 29. Could someone from your team please provide written directions/steps by Wednesday, March 12 to help us update this page? Is there someone else I should add to this bug? Thx, Jen

Jen, On it! Do you want screenshots or diagrams as well?

Thanks, John! Screenshots and diagrams would be fabulous!!!!

I took a crack at rewriting this original Sync marketing page: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/mobile/sync/ The last few steps involve some claims about end-to-end encryption. Who can confirm if anything has meaningfully changed in this respect? I have CC:ed Chris Karlof as my first lifeline on the matter. Here is what I have: https://id.etherpad.mozilla.org/sync-marketing-copy Any lines that I recommend we change are prefixed with CURRENT, followed by PROPOSED; otherwise, lines remain the same.

(In reply to Ryan Feeley from comment #6) > Here is what I have: > https://id.etherpad.mozilla.org/sync-marketing-copy Some comments on that: "There are many places to get started with Sync, but the easiest one is under the Tools menu where you can select Set Up Sync…" - Windows/Linux don't have "Tools" menus visible by default. We should generally be pointing people to the menu panel, I think. "Check your email, and click the confirmation link and unless you opted to choose what to sync." - This seems awkwardly phrased. I think we should probably omit mention of "Choose what to Sync" entirely in this overview page?

We'll definitely keep your comments in mind. Please let us know if there's any other feedback.
Check out the updated copy in the etherpad. I flipped it around to emphasize the value prop of why Sync is awesome. Matej, please have free run with this. I just roughed in something to get you started. Also, I took out the steps to install since their documentation is much better served with our SUMO content. My fallback marketing is usually of the form: <product>: A safe and easy way of <what the product does> Then a break out of: 1) What it does 2) Why it's safe 3) Why it's easy The re-write is pretty good on what it does. However, it has too much exposition (3 headings?) on why it's safe, and nothing obvious on why it's easy. > Firefox Sync is the only service with end-to-end encryption. This certainly isn't true any more. Many services offer this. > Sync’s advanced security measures mean you’re never vulnerable to online bad guys or companies that will sell your information. This oversells. We're not going to protect them from identity, for example. > Enjoy the benefits of sharing personal info across all your devices while still maintaining military-grade security and privacy. +1 Summary: less "safe", more "easy", particularly for people who were scared off by legacy sync.

Hi All- Thanks so much for participating in this bug conversation - especially the clarification on encryption and security. We will be including the instructions/steps to sign in to sync as part of this page. The Product Marketing team has asked us to build a page on mozilla.org with the instructions for how to sign up for Sync, to complement the SUMO sync page(s). I think we will structure the page as follows: 1. Brief overview of product benefits 2. Instructions to set up sync 3. Want to add Firefox to your Android? call to action linking to Play store Matej and I will take a next pass at the copy. Thanks everyone!
Thanks again for all the help and direction, everyone. Here's my pass at copy based on the structure in comment 11: [HEADLINE] Keep Your Firefox in Sync [COPY] Instantly make Firefox your own wherever you use it. Seamlessly sync your bookmarks, history, passwords and more and access them from any device. [STEPS] Get started with Sync. It's fast, safe and easy: 1. Open the menu in the top right of Firefox and select "Sign in to Sync." 2. Click "Get started" in the tab that opens. 3. Enter an email address and password to "Create a Firefox Account." 4. Click "Next" to get a verification sent to your email. 5. Check your email and click the verification link. 6. You’re all set! Firefox will automatically sync in the background from now on. [ANDROID SECTION] Have an Android phone or tablet? Download Firefox for Android to sync between your desktop and mobile devices. Get it free from Google Play » [SUMO LINKS] Get more detailed instructions. Using an older version of Sync?

One small tweak then we're good to go. Step 1: I suggest adding a help link referencing where they can find their Menu, in case there are users who do not know where this is. We have a similar line of copy already that refers to the preference pane. (Not sure where your preference pane is?) Would change to ---> (Not sure where your menu is?) It would be nice to apply the same visual treatment to it. Smaller text, and in Italics. It needn't be a focal point of step one, just a side note. This would link to: [Get link from Verdi] :)

Thanks for the quick turn around on feedback, Laura!
(In reply to Jennifer Bertsch [:jbertsch] from comment #14) > Verdi: do you have a link for this? We could use this - https://support.mozilla.org/kb/learn-more-about-the-design-of-new-firefox#w_a-handy-new-menu We could also use a screenshot or our fancy button that works with the tour api. Looking at the copy, Matej says in step 1, "Open the menu in the top right of Firefox" which is how I do it support articles. That's usually sufficient. (In reply to Matej Novak [:matej] from comment #12) > > [SUMO LINKS] > > Get more detailed instructions. > > Using an older version of Sync? You know I'm all for more sumo links but do you think we need the "Using an older version of Sync?" link? That link is part of the sign up process and doesn't affect many people. We hope to archive that article along with the rest of the legacy sync articles as soon as possible (Sept-Oct?).

Thanks for the link, Verdi! I'd like to include the "using old Sync" link at least for a couple of months just in case anyone using old Sync ends up on this page.
I'm going to resolve this bug and add the copy with the links to the Sync page implementation bug so that Steven can begin coding.
