Under the "View -> Messages" Menu there are four methods for deciding what type
of messages to display.  I would like the options to include:

Not Deleted
Threads with Not Deleted
Watched Threads with Not Deleted

These are much like the "UnRead" selections already there.  These options would
only make sense when using IMAP.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW

Has there been any progress on this? It's quite frustrating, and seems like it
shouldn't be too hard to fix.

It seems to have been open quite a while...
Have a look at bug 243075 which has a patch that implements this feature.
Originally, I had some trouble with it (small errors adapting it to recent
source), but now I find it works quite nicely.

I really would like to see this small but useful change integrated.

As I said there, I don't think that patch does implement quite the desired
functionality.
