What feature should be changed? Please provide the URL of the feature if possible. ================================================================================== When the user clicks Save without actually changing anything (including attachments, tags, or metadata), do not save a revision. What problems would this solve? =============================== It seems to be a common pattern for a user to open a page in the editor, and then save without actually changing anything. Many page histories are therefore cluttered with empty revisions. The users responsible are listed in the page's Contributors list when they actually have contributed nothing. Who would use this? =================== Editors who look at histories, revision dashboard, and page Contributors lists. What would users see? ===================== Users would see less noise in the histories and revision dashboard. What would users do? What would happen as a result? =================================================== It might be useful to track when this behavior happens, for example to see if it happens more often on certain pages, or changes in response to UI changes. It just shouldn't result in a saved revision. Is there anything else we should know? ====================================== There may be another bug for this, but I couldn't find it. As discussed with Luke and Maris, this is a blocker for implementing automatically-awarded badges based on editing contributions.
Bug 812157 is the one and it is already marked as blocking badges.
