A simple way to "disable" a single email account would be great. In an optimal way a "disabled" account should behave exactly like a normal account in offline mode. And it should be visible that the account is disabled.
Many users want to temporarily disable single accounts for very different reasons. The important thing is that there is no network traffic (for example because it's temporarily not available) and all the account's settings are preserved. If it is possible the locally stored emails should still be accessible.
(There are work-arounds for POP3 accounts but there is no satisfying solution for IMAP.)
