Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:28.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/28.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20140317233501

Steps to reproduce:

Tried to import DuckDuckGo's OpenSearch xml file from https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/search/?atype=4

Actual results:

javascript dialog with message that firefox is needed in order to add a search plugin

Expected results:

DuckDuckGo should be added to list of search plugins
Hi,

I wasn't able to reproduce this on Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:28.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/28.0 ID:20140314220517: I've opened the relevant URL, searched for the DuckDuckGo add-on in the list, and then downloaded it without problems (clicking the green button opened a dialog box asking "Add "DuckDuckGo" to the list of engines available in the search bar? From: addons.mozilla.org", clicking "Ok" to this box added the addon for me)

Have you tried with a clean profile? (see this guide on how to do it: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager)

Or even in Safe Mode? ( "Help" → "Restart with Add-ons disabled" in the menu bar)

Thanks,
Francesca

krichter, exactly which addon are you downloading? Can you give us a link to it? Thanks!
Hi,
thanks for your interest!

The link location of the search engine is https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/duckduckgo-ssl/?src=search. In a fresh profile the behavior is the same and in safe mode in fresh profile a dialog with title "internal error" and message "Firefox could not install the search plugin from "https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/latest/161972/addon-161972-latest.xml?src=search" because an engine with the same name already exists." is displayed. Deleting the initially installed DuckDuckGo search engine and repeating doesn't change this latter behavior.

With the upgrading of some search add-ons, this remains a bug.
