Steps to reproduce:

1. I set gfx.canvas.azure.backends and gfx.content.azure.backends to "skia"
2. I restarted firefox
3. It crashed. (however that is NOT what I intend to discuss in this bug report)
4. I started firefox with -safe-mode


Actual results:

The safe mode still crashes. Only editing prefs.js in the current profile and removing the gfx.canvas.azure.backends and gfx.content.azure.backends option change to "skia" will make Firefox start again, no matter whether in safe mode or not.


Expected results:

I would really expect Firefox to use safe defaults for gfx.canvas.azure.backends and gfx.content.azure.backends and not some current setting from the profile, since that is exactly what may have caused me to attempt safe mode start in the first place

One more comment, sorry they are serial rather than all together -- I wasn't able  to reproduce this crash on a MacBook Air with OSX 10.8.5 and Firefox 31.0a1 (2014-04-22). I don't think that necessarily matters to Jonas's point.

This bug is not about crashing, it's about safe mode that should reset about:config settings
