Hello! We're trying to get a budgetary figure for the following hardware to replace end-of-lifed hardware and add some additional hardware for dealing with 100% processing. This is a bit urgent because we only have a few months until our support for all our Hbase systems expires. Here's what we think we need: 54 HP BL460c Gen8 (32GB (4x 8GB), 10gE, HP 300GB 2 SAS) 3 yr warranty In C7000 chassis (?) <-- my HP hardware knowledge is very weak :D * Basically we were looking for one of the 16-blade 10U chassis. 28 HP DL360p Gen8 (128 GB RAM, 4x 1gE), 8 1.2 GB SAS drives 10 HPSL4540s, 10gE, 15 x 3.5” LFF SATA 2TB or 4 TB, with drives configured for 1676TB total capacity (no RAID) Thanks!

For this section, did you need 10gE *per server* or just the capacity for 10gE coming out of the chassis (with 1-2gE per server)?

Just capacity for 10gE coming out of the chassis.

Great news. I'd take the 8 chassis quote for the moment. I'll need to run the final configuration by some Ceph experts. This is for getting a reasonable budget that we can get approval for.
One other general question: Does the amount of RAM we have per BL460c or DL360 affect the price much? There's some wiggle room there for us on probably 1/2 of the BL460s, and maybe 1/4 of the DL360s (less ram in each).
:selena, I've sent off the quote request and copied our vendor here. We'll start working on fine-tuning the pricing.
:selena, do you have any requirements for the number/speed of cores in each platform, or is CPU speed unimportant here?
(In reply to Derek Moore [:dmoore] from comment #7) > :selena, do you have any requirements for the number/speed of cores in each > platform, or is CPU speed unimportant here? In earlier quotes, we had the following: * DL360s 1 x Intel Xeon E5-2609V2 / 2.5 GHz ( Quad-Core ) * BL460s: (2) Intel® Xeon® E5-2620 v2 (2.1GHz/6-core/15MB/7.2GT-s QPI/80W, DDR3-1600, HT, Turbo2- 3/3/3/3/4/5) That seems fine.
Thanks Selena. Can you also please define further the SL4540 configuration in a per node configuration 1)processors(how many core per processor required) and quantity per node (one or 2 processors) required for the SL4540. Processor options are 4/6/8/10 core 2) How much RAM per node ? 3) Boot up drives per node (capacity SSD/SAS ?) 4) Is 10GB Uplink external on chassis or inside the chassis thanks

Processor options are > 4/6/8/10 core 2 processors, 8-core > 2) How much RAM per node ? We're interested in 2GB RAM per disk available to a node. -- would the closest config there be 128GB? > 3) Boot up drives per node (capacity SSD/SAS ?) We typically have like 100GB boot drives, SAS is fine. > 4) Is 10GB Uplink external on chassis or inside the chassis What's the reason for the difference? (sorry for being so ignorant here!)
Attached file Bug 993090 Soccoro Project.xls (obsolete) —
(In reply to Rich Pomper from comment #11) > Created attachment 8408640 [details] > Bug 993090 Soccoro Project.xls Thanks, Rich! In looking at the quote, the # of drives seems a bit overspec'd. We only need 500 TB total JBOD disk space. It looks like your quote is providing us 2,400 TBs! Am I missing something?
Selena It may be easier to talk this through so please let me know if you are available for a discussion so we can assist in architecting a solution. The request I received was for the following: 10 x HP SL4540 1-node servers * 60 x 4TB SATA * 10G ethernet module Obviously there is a disconnect. The quote I sent was based on this configuration so if you can let me know the number of nodes and disk space required we can reconfigure. The quote I sent over was a budgetary quote and an initial configuration. We certainly expect to need to revise and reconfigure as needed and ultimately will supply a final price once the configuration has been confirmed by you. Thanks
Updating bug with final approved quote using the following configuration: 8 x HP DL360p with 900GB drives

:selena, do you have a hostname for these machines and what VLAN they'll be on?
selena is on extended leave. What's the status of this order?
the hardware is on site in phoenix. dcops is flying out to rack and configure the servers. can you provide the hostname, vlan, and os version you want?
>What's the status of this order? 8 x DL360p 900GB configuration should be on site. We can get those up for you, I'm unsure of the status for the remainder of the hardware.
Apologies for the delay -- I think mpressman is better to ask about these details. I know they are intended to enhance our currently expires postgres servers but I'm not sure of the best way to set them up so we can have a smooth transition.

we have the 8 hosts online with the RAID configured and puppetized. can you poke at the host and let me know if there are any issues. also, would you guys want a dedicated partition for /wal as the OS disk is a ~900GB RAID1 array?
Flags: needinfo?(mpressman)
van, If you can create a 100GB /wal partition on all that would be great. Otherwise, everything looks good. Thanks!
Flags: needinfo?(mpressman)
:mpressman, are these hosts in production now? this will require downtime so please let me know if coordination is required.
:van, nope they are not currently in production.

:sheeri/:selena, are we still expecting anymore hardware? our last install was 8 HP DL360s back in Sept.
We are not expecting anymore new hardware, no.
