Hi,
I manage the Firefox OS Performance team and am one of multiple people who maintain our wiki page[1] and many of its linked pages. On occasion we need to move some of these wiki pages but currently can't. Please grant every team member listed here[2] "canmove" privileges.
Thanks,
Mike

We'll need their MozillaWiki usernames in order to grant them privileges.

Gordon,
We now have all usernames provided. Please add everyone who was needinfo'd to the canmove group and grant us move permissions.
If I've got the role and permissions wrong please excuse me, we just need to each be able to move wiki pages on wiki.mozilla.org. An example is to rename and move pages under /B2G/ and other palaces to /FirefoxOS/
Thanks!
Mike

Thanks, Mike. I think you've provided enough info in order to get this done now.
Unfortunately, I realized about halfway through that I don't actually the necessary permissions to make these changes for you. I'll needinfo Christie, but I think she'll be unavailable until Monday. (Alison can also make these changes, but I don't know how active she is with the wiki nowadays.)
In the meantime, though, feel free to file bugs on specific page moves—that I do have the appropriate permissions for.

The following have had the canmove flag added (and confirm flag too where missing previously):
User:Dhuseby
User:Hub
User:Eliperelman
User:JonHylands
User:Gmealer
User:Mlee
User:Rdandu
User:Jeangong
There are no users by the handles "benkelly76" or "MChang".
Gordon - you've now got additional cow powers too ;-P

If this is a particular thing you need to do then don't do this as individual pages! it can be done more safely in groups of <100 pages. (This is because of the way that many people have used wiki.m.o via creating lots of subpages - which is really *not* the way to do things in reality - instead of using categories to perform the same function but in a more maintenance-friendly manner.) If there are major 'en bloc' moves like this please comment on this bug.

I'm curious about why you say this.
Judging from the B2G prefix index, it seems to me like a pretty standard use of subpages:

Hi Alison, I just went to wiki.mozilla.org. Sorry for the typo, can you try "Mchang" / User ID: 258649.
Thanks!

Mason - done
Gordon - I was given to understand by Brion and other mediawiki developers that it is about how MW makes use of storage. Subpages, in essence, don't pack as well as they get stored in blocks rather than randomly (or something like that) meaning lots of wastage. wiki.m.o seems to have got into a habit of overkill on using subpages so we're now probably stuck with it.
There is also the thing that we currently retain all the spam in the backend because that's what happens with deleted pages - a wiki makes them always recoverable. I suspect if we purged them (and rebuilt the indices) we would *massively* drop the storage requirement by as much as 95%.

Moving this discussion to mozilla.tools.wiki to avoid clogging up this bug with irrelevant material.

Filed bug 997135 for this.

Hi Alison,
Thanks for the tips. How should we go about moving all /B2G/Performance/* pages to /FirefoxOS/Performance/*?

Seriously though, /B2G/Performance/* have now been moved to /FirefoxOS/Performance/*
Requests for the /B2G/ will be automatically redirected, and yes this will mean that if you go to the old name you will still see that in the browser bar (but not if you directly use the new names)
Let me know if you want any other subpages/groups of /B2G/ moved (https://wiki.mozilla.org/index.php?title=B2G#Subpages_of_B2G )
