We NEED a curation dashboard. We are needing to do regular updates of content on webmaker.org, and we'd love to see a fluid back-end curation dashboard that we can use as a team, and maybe even get the community involved in curating WITH us. This is a bigger project, I guess, but one that is massively important to our ability to keep webmaker.org fresh. [specifics about what's hard] --This is mostly a UX thing. The way the data is displayed in the editor makes it very difficult to know what you're doing. We need to see ALL the tags on a make, so we can more fluidly add and subtract. It's nearly impossible to update thumbnails without opening the one that's there a million times. Descriptions are hard to read, you can't preview, etc, etc. --There's no record of what you've been doing, so you just keep adding/deleting tags and urls and relying on your memory (and lots of paper) to keep track. Some sort of logging feature would help here. --There's a constant switch back and forth to see stuff on webmaker.org so that you can decide what to feature, and we're looking at how things are made to determine that we aren't featuring someone's pretty page built on crappy code. -- the "webmaker:tag-1" tags don't actually seem to represent real order on the site, or maybe it just seems that way because if you have more than 7 to feature, you inevitably end up having webmaker:tag-8 more than once (7 +-2 Rule!) Would be nice to have a box that shows which application tags you've used. --we can only work alone, but need to curate our thousands of users as a team and as a community. RELATED: Also maybe we should remix/add to this: https://adhoctribution.herokuapp.com/log-em so people can add content they saw and want to feature (as well as info on the Super Mentor/Org who worked on it).
(In reply to Laura Hilliger [:epilepticrabbit] from comment #0) Laura: a couple questions. * is this primarily in relation to the /teach page? Which pages are you trying to curate right now? * which parts of this are blocking your work on training? So that we can triage / prioritize? Trying to scope and break down what you wrote above: * Admins need a better back-end curation dashboard for Webmaker.org * So that we can: ** do more regular updates of [makes and teaching kits?] on webmaker.org (which content? examples?) * Why do admins need that? ** To keep webmaker.org fresh. And to up-level the best community contribution when it comes in. * Potential tickets to file for improving the back-end admin UX: a) TAGS. Make it easily see ALL of the tags on a make, so that admins can more easily add and subtract tags b) THUMBNAILS. It's hard to update thumbnails right now. (you end up opening the one that's already there a million times.) c) DESCRIPTIONS. Are hard to read. NEED BETTER SCOPE: * Logging. Some sort of "logging feature" (what does this mean? give an example?) * Preview. How might this work? * Numerical ordering. a) Confirm whether tags like "webmaker:tag-1" are still needed, b) still work, c) have a maximum number (more than 7 allowed?) RE: AD HOC CONTRIBUTION LOGGER: Also maybe we should remix/add to this: https://adhoctribution.herokuapp.com/log-em so people can add content they saw and want to feature (as well as info on the Super Mentor/Org who worked on it). * No. That's now what it's for. But let's try to dig into what's above to start.

+1 to all of the above, and thanks for starting this much-needed bug, Laura -- this stuff is massive for me going forward (unsurprisingly). Two functions I would love to see added to this dashboard: * On the main page of dashboard, an overview of all pages on the Webmaker site *are* being curated -- ie, /teach, /explore, /home, /gallery, and /resources. While not all Admins need to have permissions to edit all of these, it's important for us to start recognizing that these pages are ALIVE, and need folks to come into the back-end and update. * The function to *preview* the placement of tiles before they are published on site. At the moment, Laura and I have had to publish, then manually reload the Webmaker site on our own browsers, over 12 times for each slot. This is highly inefficient, and will work badly if we get community curators involved. Kate started a preview window for /gallery a while ago, but it was never finished. Would be great to re-open this work.
