1002871 - Doorhangers only appear as a brief flash

On my machine, the doorhangers simply don’t appear most time; sometimes they will appear as a brief flash, but never do they hang around. Password remembering, Click to Play, addon installation from unknown source, SSL details—all doorhangers are affected, and it impairs the use of the browser somewhat.

Version: Nightly, built from integration/fx-team twelve hours ago (86dce59c3d16). Issue also reproduced on my machine with the latest build on the ubuntu-mozilla-daily PPA, that of 2014-04-10 (so much for “daily”), and I believe it applied for a week or two before that, but I am not certain of the precise date when it started happening—at the time I assumed it to be a temporary occurrence that would be fixed shortly. It may have been connected with the upgrade from Ubuntu 13.10 to 14.04, which I did in late March; I cannot remember clearly.

Nothing of note in stdout or stderr.

Other things of note about the environment: Ubuntu 14.04, 64-bit, i3 window manager. I think it very probable that i3 is the key factor.

I am willing to go to considerable effort in diagnosis of this issue.

Yes, this is a known issue. It's caused by the new panel animations. We'll likely add a preference to disable it and default the preference to off on Linux. The issue was reported in bug 994562, so I'm duping there, but you can track progress of having your panels back on Nightly in bug 1001234 (and you might be able to provide a patch, if so inclined! :-) ).
