Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win95; en-US; rv:0.9.4) Gecko/20010920 Netscape6/6.2 - When starting mail, the "Mail Server Password Required" dialog came up WITHOUT the text field. - Clicked OK. - Got an error because the password was incorrect. - Another "Mail Server Password Required" dialog came up WITH the text field this time. Worked fine.
Bob, are you still seeing this the first time a password dialog comes up?
Not everytime, but frequently. I've seen it a couple times today running yesterday's build: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win95; en-US; rv:0.9.4) Gecko/20011017 Netscape6/6.2 I think I see this at least once a day...
Correction: day before yesterday's build (I guess I downloaded, but forgot to install yesterday. I'm working from home today and don't want to install over my modem...)
And I should have included in the description that I have the pref set to open mail with netscape starts.

Bob, does this still happen?
Priority: -- → P2
I've been using NS 6.2 RTM (not the trunk builds) for email, and still get it occasionally. But you probably only care about the trunk, right? I guess I could switch to using a trunk build...
Yeah, I care about the trunk.
dup of bug 91155
I have not seen this for quite a while, but just saw it again with 0.9.7 on RedHat Linux 7.2 - after Mozilla started, I had to go through several "Master Password" and NNTP auth dialogs that did not have the text field...

I've set user_pref("news.persist_server_open_state_in_folderpane", true) (see bug 123029 for more info on this one) and now I am seing this bug on every Mozilla startup. More specifically, on every Mozilla startup, I get: 1) "Master passwd" dialog without the text field -> Cancel 2) Same 3) Same 4) "username for new access" dialog w/o the text field -> Cancel 5) Working "Master passwd" dialog Again, this is 100% reproducible with a) user_pref("news.persist_server_open_state_in_folderpane", true) b) 3 NNTP accounts expanded at startup, one of which requires authentication to connect c) BuildID 2002012619 (trunk) on RH Linux 7.2

Still seing this in BuildID 2002071713, but not as regularly as before. As before, it seems that it's the NNTP password asking that causes this, but if IMAP happens to be the first to request a password, then things work as expected. It seems that this is somehow connected to some parts of browser window not being properly initialized on startup, as described in bug 158030.

WFM with current builds and I don't find any other reports about this, so I strongly assume this is fixed by time. Last report here is for Moz 1.2 from 2002. Feel free to reopen if you can reproduce this with current trunk builds.
