* big +1 to focusing on three web lit badges to start.
* +1 to including Privacy and Remix in that
* can we do Coding and Scripting instead of Navigation for the 3rd?
** Because a) there's probably more demand for that, and
** b) I think our offering / content is stronger there.

* Doug: one thing to amend in your etherpad: we are not gated on this work for "BadgeKit to land in mid-June." We're actually ready *now* :)
* The Super Mentor and Hive Contributor badges are currently ready on staging. Next week we will publish a blog post and invite people to help us beta test and do QA.
** Here's the draft and instructions on how people can help with that testing (very useful -- please read):
https://github.com/k88hudson/how-to-beta-test-webmaker-badges/blob/master/README.md
* What this means: now that the badges plumbing is done, and the graphic design work for the badges is mostly done, the only blocker remaining is: the copy for the badge detail page.
* Do you think it's reasonable to have that done by the [June13] milestone?

Hi Matt, thanks for the update. :-)
So:
1. I'd hold off on the Super Mentor badge until both that and the Mentor badge is available. Michelle's in a better place to decide, though. (I think it's a better story to tell that 'contribution badges are ready for testing')
2. By 'copy for the badge detail page' do you mean the criteria? That's something we need to plan for on the call I've asked for next week (Bug 1015165). It's important to get right first time otherwise we have multiple version of the same badge in the ecosystem.
3. I was under the impression that the June 13th milestone pertains to Webmaker contribution badges? (i.e. not the Web Literacy badges?) We can rush them out, but I'd prefer to follow a process of engaging the community and liaising with the Badge Alliance working group (again, Bug 1015165)

(In reply to [:dajbelshaw] Doug Belshaw from comment #4)
> 1. I'd hold off on the Super Mentor badge until both that and the Mentor badge is available.
* We're just testing it. It's ready, so we're going to start beta testing it. It's on staging -- not production. https://github.com/k88hudson/how-to-beta-test-webmaker-badges/blob/master/README.md
* How we publicly roll them out and communicate about these badges is a separate question -- I think we can address your point that way.
> 2. By 'copy for the badge detail page' do you mean the criteria?
Yes. I mean this, for each of the three Web Lit badges:
https://webmaker.mofostaging.net/badges/webmaker-super-mentor
** A short paragraph description of what the badge is.
** Criteria for earning it.
I understand that the criteria is a meaty challenge.
Use whatever process you need -- but once it's done, the net result of that work is:
copy we can implement on three badge detail pages. So I'm just trying to ticket and milestone those.
> 3. Timelines
* Sorry -- I didn't mean to rush. I'm just trying to get a sense of when you think the copy can be done.
* Should we set [June27] for the copy instead? Does that give enough time?

Hi all, looking to discuss the below on x-team call tomorrow:
We have a real opportunity now that the engineering is tracking right, we have the 15 competencies pages set to launch, and we have the mentor and hive badges ready top roll. The opportunity is to actually start badging and allowing others to badge stuff we care about. We have to make up traction here and thoughtful speed should be of the essence.
- Once the competency pages are up I think we can issue a starter/beginner/intro badge on each competency. The criteria is something along the lines of "make/write" something that demonstrates a basic level of understanding of each comp based on the discover/make/teach resources on the page. Submit evidence.
- This is just the beginning journey here, does not need to be overwroughtand represents a huge win for summer
- Then with the three comps we pick, remix, privacy, coding/scripting, we have a team that does the exact same thing we did for the 15 comp for the skills associated with the three competencies: Use the content flow (discover make teach) and the design template to create these 15 (or so) pages
- Then we can allow people to earn badges on those as a pathway to an advanced badge on the competency building off the beginner one.
- Here we can be more comprehensive on the criteria which would include 1) having beginner badge, all the skills badge 3) an evidence base that builds on this to demonstrate an understanding
- We chew through this process until we have the map covered and could start thinking about what a comprehensive badge looks like when people have 15 "advanced" badges
This feels like a lot of work to me, but NOT conceptually difficult. It is also what we are hearing the broader world is asking us to do.
So we need:
-baseline/generic criteria for the competency basic badge for all 15 competencies (light weight) by July 15th
- Team to build content/criteria for skills pages with hope of having these done at some point by mid Maker Party
- Road map for covering map with a wash/rinse/repeat of the above and plan for people to possibly help get there past paid staff

We've basically got two options:
[1] Get everything out of the door quickly
[2] Work more piecemeal
I'd prefer to go with [2] but we can go ahead with [1] if there's an appetite. I can write criteria for each competency (just riffing off the skills underpinning it) but then we end up with a resource implication.
So, I guess the question is whether this is a 'bring your own content/evidence' kind of badge system [1], or whether we're planning to create the resources and assessment alongside [2]. My assumption was that we were doing the latter, but it looks like I may have been mistaken.

I would say I'm actually proposing we do both 1 & 2.
I'd say the entry level at each badge (first step/pathway) is bring your own content/evidence, we can tighten and scope as we work through skills content pages and criteria and then conceive what the "advanced" badge looks like at the crossing of the skills path (ie Remix entry- we could issues this by Friday if wanted, then the three skills, then Remix "achieved" badge or some such)
i think this also is a path to openning others/partners.
Partner X ushers 200 mentors, get trained. 25 of them achieve Super mentor status and can thus award the standard web lit badges with their content/tools/process/context. Although still be counted as contributors via the badges for us.
I know I am preaching to the converted, and that we need to watch closely the next few weeks with the mentor/hive testing...but I think we have a content and pathway plan that could work with both coverage of the map and an experiment with drilling down a competency. This excites me.

Yes move to June 13th
But we need to get serious about hitting that deadline
All we need is criteria and some copy writing and we should be able to launch entry level badges on each competency

Apologies for the delay - I unexpectedly had to take PTO to look after my kids.
I see Matt's moved this to June 13th, which is great. I'm all for getting some version of these out into the wild as soon as possible.
Notes:
1. I'll work on the criteria for all 15 competency badges
2. I'd like to brand these badges as being 'beta' (give us wiggle room, and manages expectations)
3. We need a plan for the issuing workflow

Hey Doug. Would something like this work as a copy template for the criteria / badge detail page?
https://etherpad.mozilla.org/web-lit-badges
* I don't think we need a plan for the "issuing workflow." We're going to use the same workflow we're currently testing on staging:

I'm going to mark this as resolved fixed and push discussions to other bugs:
* Bug 1018880 - Come up with criteria for 15 Web Literacy competency badges
* Bug 1019661 - Come up with rubric/guide for issuing Web Literacy competency badges
