If blur effect can be used for private thumbnails(1018456), there should also be a way to reveal a original version of private thumbnail.

The most intuitive way is "press down to peek". Pressing down usually indicates the user has interest to proceed, or to learn more about the target. 

In this case, press down a blurred private thumbnail should reveal the original version of the image. Then the user can either release touch to switch to that tab, or move the touch point away from the thumbnail to cancel.
