User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/31.0 (Beta/Release) Build ID: 20140716183446 Steps to reproduce: Upgraded to new TB 31.0. I love the new GET MESSAGES in principle -- it displays the user inbox being polled and, since I have several, this is useful when big emails come in. You need to have several accounts for the bug to show. Run single GET MSG for various inboxes ("Ally", "Billy", "Charlie", etc) in random order. Actual results: Run for Ally, gets Ally (OK). Run for Billy -- gets Ally and Billy. Run for Charlie, sometimes gets Billy & Charlie, or may get Ally & Charlie, or maybe all three. The point is it gets more than than asked. Or it gets less than asked: Run for Billy, gets Billy. Run again for Billy, nothing seems to happen. Run complete GET MSG, gets some, not all, may stop at Billy or last one run singly !!! So it means missed messages, probably the automatic ones too! Expected results: Single GET MESSAGES should poll the targeted inbox only. Complete GET ALL should fetch all inboxes flagged for inclusion in GET ALL. Impact: SEVERE !!
Severity: normal → major
Further testing of GET MESSAGES shows that getting ALL loops haphazardly through the list -- repeats some, may miss others. Several single GETs (which mess up as described) followed by a complete GET results in some inboxes being polled multiple times instead of once -- and some not polled! I have 16 inboxes: 12 set for inclusion in ALL and 3 which I poll manually from time to time (old & spammed up). (And one is a placeholder with no inbox specified.) All of the twelve used to be polled in a particular sequence. Now they're polled depending on whim -- some once, some multiple times, some not at all. In the old style display (up to TB24), the account name came up quickly and was overwritten, but at least I saw it go by. With the new display in TB31, names are repeated -- not just the previous one displayed in error, but actually repeated somewhere else in the sequence, sometimes multiple times.
The "Gets more accounts than asked" is not a new bug iirc. But I'm not finding said bug. BTW, how is this "major"?
Summary: New GET MESSAGES in TB31 loops. repeats, gets more than asked → Get New Messages in TB31 loops. repeats. Gets more accounts than asked

@Wayne Mery I put "major" because it means we cannot reliably get email anymore on either of our machines. Anyone else experiencing the bug will find the same thing -- but it takes awhile to notice that not everything is going as expected. If a program can't do its basic operation properly or reliably, I would call that "major". Automatic (timed, periodic) polling may or may not work -- and I base that on seeing that manual polling at random may or may not work reliably, and a GET MESSAGES (ALL) definitely doesn't work completely, even if TB is closed and restarted. I have to do a GET MSGS at least three times to see it progress through all the mailboxes. And as I said previously, polling one specific mailbox might or might not work. (Sorry but we're also in a time crunch this week (and especially today) with two project deadlines, so there's no time to fuss with something that worked reliably until last night.)
As a help to Bug #1042704, I was going to restart WIN/SAFE as suggested, but as usual I did a Norton update prior to shutdown. It failed, twice, and the log shows it had been doing so since 3 am here. I rebooted (normally) to resolve the Norton issue first, which it did, again a usual occurrence. Then on a whim I launched TB -- and no mouse hesitation (1042704). Ran GET MSGS (ALL) several times, nothing wrong with it. Ran GET MSGS selectively, at random, many times -- no repeats or mishaps. So rebooting fixed the problem -- likely something in Norton. (Which also explains why I didn't notice anything last night when I first installed TB31.) But there is an interesting side note: When I attempted a specific GET MSG while GET MSGS (ALL) was running, I immediately got the usual popup about the folder being processed (Bug #707933 and Bug #827897) -- but this time it explicitly told me which one -- the one I was running (not just "This folder...").
