mhoye noticed this when starting up his Nightly and logging into Zimbra. See attachment. Not sure why mhoye is seeing the "Use &brandName; as my default browser", or "Choose what I share" notification bars, since I don't think this was a new profile (he can correct me if I'm wrong there). Still, we might want to do something about multiple notification bars - and perhaps not split them between the top and bottom of the browser.
This was a new user account on a new machine, but it was the second time running any Firefox on it; I used the FF that was already here to download Nightly, and then ran that. I didn't answer any of these questions in the out of date FF I used to download Nightly.

Let's broaden this a little and make this a UX design/research bug. Beyond the notification bar mess, there are other issues with the first-time experience. Some examples: - the import wizard blocks your first run to ask you to import data from other browsers (Screenshot: http://i3.minus.com/ibynHwuvGlr9Y.png). It has a non-Retina icon on Macs. If you're upgrading shortly after moving to a new machine, you never want to import just e.g. the Safari defaults. I think ideally we would just launch Firefox, and ask you at some later point if you want to migrate data (ideally after we've determined whether there's any significant history to migrate). - the default browser prompt conflicts with the first-run tour page (http://i3.minus.com/i2vwiPx42zHDn.png). This is a notification bar now, but that's not that much better. - attachment 8484179 [details] is an extreme case (the zimbra notification bar is not that common), but the two notification bars are possible

mverdi, any updates here?

(In reply to :Gavin Sharp [email: gavin@gavinsharp.com] from comment #4) > mverdi, any updates here? Here’s an in-progress journey map I’m working on http://bit.ly/1EUzr3R Some highlights from the user study I did (I'm still going though videos): * I’m seeing many people not get a clean first run experience because they have old profiles on their computer. In my test this is the vast majority of people but I don’t know the real magnitude (adding to the to-do list) - https://www.usertesting.com/highlight_reels/k2MSj89J13Ked9NtftJJ * Lots of trouble finding bookmarks: https://www.usertesting.com/highlight_reels/7ZyhDp6LsnfFbjUvJyT6 * Weird Flash doorhanger for people without Flash plugin for Firefox: https://www.usertesting.com/highlight_reels/ConuoRZ9QuTpHw3A5J42 * People taking the new user tour: https://www.usertesting.com/highlight_reels/KZZ2Dzu6GoYV9ANWMi3n * People opt-ing out of making Firefox their default browser before installing it: https://www.usertesting.com/highlight_reels/zVbdw9F4poRgRJAxUxtR

Comment on attachment 8511435 [details] FirefoxFirstRunMap.pdf Looks good, Michael! Just one request: could you make the follow-up bugs you filed depend on this bug so that they are easier to find? Thanks!
