User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:32.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/32.0 Build ID: 20140923175406 Steps to reproduce: reply to a mail Actual results: focus stays on the main window By not realizing what happened I try to compose my mail. Thunderbird interprets this as a bunch of keyboard commands leading to unwanted behaviour like archiving, deleting mails, or wildly moving around. Expected results: Keep focus on reply mail!!
OS: Windows 7 → Linux
Component: Untriaged → Message Compose Window
Summary: No focus replying to a mail → No focus replying to a mail with linux

I have also experienced this bug for approximately the last year on assorted Linux PCs all running the Xubuntu desktop. It occurrs exactly as described in the report, and will also occurr if thunderbird is called as the e-mail helper. This problem does not occurr with any other program under Xubuntu that I am aware of. There are many other reports of this issue elsewhere. Example: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=1796655
Do you still see this problem? And is your recollection that this started happening with an update to Thunderbird? Or, (not saying this isn't a thunderbird bug, but ...) is it more likely that this happened when the OS or some window component was updated? bug 1185818 may be a duplicate.

Apologies for lack of update. Upgraded to Ubuntu 15.10 AMD64 and the issue disappeared.
