Let me introduce myself: I'm really honoured to have just started with Mozilla as a staff member. My role is an awesome one (maybe the best job ever)!! I get to work with Mozillians around the world to help identify and test new approaches to participation, ultimately helping to synthesize a way forward for this work in Mozilla.

I'll be working closely with the Participation team (David T, Rosana, Brian, Pierros, William, Nukeador, etc...), Mark Surman and Mitchell Baker, and also Mozilla's volunteer leaders.

You've likely read about this work already in the Participation Plan that Mark Surman shared.

A big part of my work will be leading an effort we're calling the Mozilla Participation Lab (replaces Task Force in the plan above). This is aimed to put a "learning umbrella" over all of the participation experiments that are going on across Mozilla right now. I might initiate a few new things to test out some new approached, but mostly I'm going to play the role of supporting, adding resources/time, and learning from the amazing stuff already going on.

Anyway, as part of all of this, I want to involve the broader community in conversations about Participation. I'm not entirely sure what the shape of these will be, but I do know that Discourse is the right platform for at least the discussion parts.

I'd love your thoughts on this, what questions you think I should be asking.

It would be great to get a Participation category setup, with me as the administrator. Ideally this would happen in the next few days, though I realize that might be an unreasonable ask, and I should have been in touch soon -- sorry. The time constraint is mainly because I'm going to be "announcing" my work (basically the framing above) very soon and having somewhere to host an open conversation right away would be excellent.
