Steps to reproduce:

Would like to have my 'Favorites' folders always show at the top of the Folder Pane, ala Outlook...


Actual results:

No way to do this...


Expected results:

There should be a way to toggle showing the Favorites at the top of the Folder Pane if desired.

While it should definitely be optional, I think this is a good candidate for being enabled by default.

I also created a related bug 1163555, to provide for a way to choose any of the 'Unified Folder' views to be displayed (pinned) at the top of the Folder Pane. I would actually prefer that bug to this one, as it would provide the most flexibility, but the reality for me is the Favorites view is probably the only one I'd ever want pinned there permanently.

Also - I have created two other bugs that are related:

bug 1159713 (Allow customization of choices in View > Folders (Unified Folders))
and
bug 1159716 (Add my own custom 'Unified Folder' choices)

If this enhancement request is ever fulfilled, I hope that it would take into account these others, and allow the bottom-most view below the 'Favorites' (and other 'Unified' views if they are also pinned) to still be able to cycle through the other enabled but unpinned Views...

I think if we did this, we'd do it the more-general way, as in bug 1163555. That would be nicer for add-ons, since they could define an exciting new folder view to use in the top pane.
