This morning I have installed the latest daily.
When I pressed the button to get the new messages, it downloads them and then Windows 7 Starter crashes (the whole screen freezes).
The only way to reboot is to hold the power key of my netbook.

a thunderbird hang shouldn't make the computer unusuable. THat said:
1. are all your video drivers updated?
2. does it happen if thunderbird is started in safe mode?

Wayne,
In the 10.1'' netbook I have Windows 7 Starter and it is years old, so there is no video drivers for the Intel build-in graphics.
I used "Safe Mode" and it worked okay.
All add-ons/plug-ins became disabled, except the Flash 17.
After I exited, I tried to Get Mail again and a couple of seconds later it crashed the whole netbook.
Maybe it is add-on related?
I also noticed that all plug-ins except Flash 17 continued disabled after I exited safe mode.

Start thunderbird in safe mode, go to tools | options | advanced | General and uncheck "Use hardware acceleration...". Shutdown and startup.
Does it crash??

Nope...
With Hardware Acceleration disabled, it doesn't crash.
And no need to get into safe mode.
I now re-enabled the acceleration and it crashed again.
:(
So in normal mode with HW accelation DISABLED it works fine and does not crash?

It seems so which is strange...
Also, I can't remember if the plug-ins were all disabled except the Flash 17 before I used safe mode.

Ahhh... I went to university and forgot to attach this.
Please take a look if it is useful..
Kind regards,

No, it is completely normal. Only if something in HW acceleration triggers a bug in your graphics card (GPU) drivers it can take down the OS. This was reported in many bugs, but we probably can't help it. Either it is somewhere in Gecko, or in the Intel drivers.

Marco, if you reenable HWA do you still see this problem with a newer version?

@Wayne:
I have formatted the old laptop and installed Windows 10 in it.
I tried with TB42.0b2 and pressed "Get Mail".
NO crashes but now we don't know if it was the old graphic drivers since I no longer have them.
