1228251 - Mail of Gmail folders keep disappearing from profile. Losing folder subscriptions?

Steps to reproduce:

Thunderbird installed from official Linux Mint repository.

Added a Gmail account with two factor authentication to Thunderbird. Tried different versions: with regular Gmail password and 2-factor code, with Apps Passwords. The settings were left to default.


Actual results:

The account was added without problem. Thunderbird starts downloading mail immediately. Sending and receiving mail is not an issue.

After a while however, the mail of the Gmail account disappears. This has happened about 5 times now.

The account is still shown in Thunderbird, but there are no folders or E-Mails. They also disappear from the profile folder at ~/.thunderbird/.


Expected results:

The mail should not disappear.

Ok, so a colleague of mine just told me he had a similar problem. He thinks that it was just the folder subscriptions that were arbitrarily turned off (for all folders at once).

When you say they disappear - you mean the folders UNDER the account, correct? 
In other words there is a directory <profile>\imapmail\<account-name>

Exactly. The account is still shown in Thunderbird and the account folder still exist.

The Inbox, Drafts, Sent Mail, etc folders are not shown anymore in Thunderbird and the files containing the e-mail are gone as well.

After restarting Thunderbird, the e-mails are automatically downloaded again.

I don't know that this is gmail-only, but blocking bug 402793 just in case

Now the question is, does it happen with version 52?
