User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/48.0.2564.109 Safari/537.36 OPR/35.0.2066.68 Steps to reproduce: See also 370843, which has been closed. Renaming Subfolder of subfolder breaks Thunderbird. This bug still exists. I can reproduce it readily. I have a folder on my Gmail account called Mail Order, beneath that is AliExpress, beneath that are specific order number folders, viz :- Mail Order->AliExpress->3789759865 Steps ===== 1. Rename any order number folder to give it a more meaningful name, such as :- Banana plugs 3789759865. Actual results: 1. No messages can be seen in preview window. 2. No messages can be opened. This affects the complete message store, not just one email account - nothing can be displayed! Workaround ========= Exit Thunderbird and go back in, all is okay again - inconvenient. Similarly, if you rename the folder back to what it was, messages are visible again - defeats object of renaming the directory in the first place. Expected results: Renaming a folder name should not affect the ability to subsequently view ANY message in on any account.
Other Issues ============ 1. Rename the Top Level Folder "Mail Order". Consequences ============ Folder name not updated in folder list. Errors generated when clicking on any subfolder of Mail Order. 2. Drag a message from an Order folder into a new folder beneath it called Test. Consequences ============ Message is not visible in Test subfolder. Message is not visible in Order folder you dragged it from. To the user it appears like it's been deleted completely - worrying. Workaround ========== Exist Thunderbird and restart. Consequence. =========== Message that was dragged to Test folder is now visible. Seems to be several folder refreshing issues upon renaming or dragging messages to new folders.
If this is specific only to gmail account, then perhaps it is bug 566248
Summary: Subfolder Rename Breaks Thunderbird → gmail subfolder rename broken
This is not specific only to gmail accounts. I tested it on my GMX account. I renamed the directory, Business>Communications>3 to Business>Communications>Three It was not possible to view any messages after that. Renaming the directory back to "3" again permitted messages to be viewed again. Renaming Communications to Comms had no effect.
This will be fixed in version 52
