Google says that Widevine CDM version 1.4.8.893 is available for Chrome 52 and should fix Amazon crash bug 1265114.

We need to test the new CDM and bump the version advertised on our update server.

@ cpearce: if this CDM fixes the Amazon crash, should we uplift it to Beta 47 or just Aurora 48?

I think we should only push the new CDM out to Aurora 48, so we have time to test it before shipping it.

Chrome are only pushing the CDM out to Chrome 52, which I think is their dev/Nightly channel. Let's let them ship the CDM first, and we can follow in Firefox 49.

So let's just push the new CDM to Firefox 49, and let that ride the trains.

I have tested the new CDM, and it works. Please can we push the new Widevine CDM to Firefox versions 49 and later. 49 is current Nightly.

While you're doing this, please *remove* serving the Widevine CDM to MacOSX 10.6. It was crashing, so we already disabled it in Firefox 47 and later, and Firefox 47 won't download it anyway.

I can confirm that on latest Nightly 49.0a1 under Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 10 and on Mac OS X 10.9 and 10.11 - Widevine version is updated to 1.4.8.893.

On Aurora(48.0a2) and Beta(47.0b8) Firefox builds - Widevine version is not updated 1.4.8.866.

Note: On Nightly builds a new bug was logged: 1275562 - [Widevine] Netflix - M7353 error is received when trying to play any video.

Callek: This new CDM update doesn't work on Netflix. I think we'd better revert this CDM update until Google can deliver a new version that does work. Can you please revert the changes such that every Firefox version that's getting a cdm version 1.4.8.893 will instead get version 1.4.8.866 instead? That is, Firefox >= 49 should get the same Widevine CDM as Firefox >= 47.

(For implementors eyes:

I merely repointed the .893 default release rule to be .866 again. Whenever widevine needs a new update we can repoint at the proper release and if necessary move the Version pointer to something other than 49 since the previous rule is also pointed at .866
)
