For about a solid week now, the content area turns black in Nightly when randomly surfing usually on image heavy pages. Parent process pages like about:support are not affected. This makes using Nightly practically unusable.
Failure Log looks something like this:

There is bug 1229375 about HWA broken with R9 series, but not sure your GPU is in the list of affected AMD GPUs.

Its a R9 280X. This wasn't an issue until very recently.

I turned off e10s and the viewport turns black and recovers instead of staying black.
Every time this happens:
Error Detected rendering device reset on refresh
Did you test with HWA disabled? (and e10s on/off)

I'm also experiencing black screens every once in a while. In my case every site I then go to is all black. I have to exit and then start Fx to get back to normal. I haven't been able to reproduce the problem at will.
