For about a solid week now, the content area turns black in Nightly when randomly surfing usually on image heavy pages. Parent process pages like about:support are not affected. This makes using Nightly practically unusable. Failure Log looks something like this: Failure Log (#0) CP+[GFX1-]: Detected rendering device reset on refresh (#85) CP+[GFX1]: Failed to create DrawTarget, Type: 7 Size: Size(68,17) (#86) CP+[GFX1]: [D2D1.1] 4CreateBitmap failure Size(140,78) Code: 0x8899000c format 1 (#87) CP+[GFX1]: [D2D1.1] 4CreateBitmap failure Size(140,105) Code: 0x8899000c format 1 (#88) CP+[GFX1]: [D2D1.1] 3CreateBitmap failure Size(148,31) Code: 0x8899000c format 0 (#89) CP+[GFX1]: Failed to create DrawTarget, Type: 7 Size: Size(148,31) (#90) CP+[GFX1]: [D2D1.1] 3CreateBitmap failure Size(148,31) Code: 0x8899000c format 0 (#91) CP+[GFX1]: Failed to create DrawTarget, Type: 7 Size: Size(148,31) (#92) CP+[GFX1]: [D2D1.1] 3CreateBitmap failure Size(280,190) Code: 0x8899000c format 1 (#93) CP+[GFX1]: Failed to create DrawTarget, Type: 7 Size: Size(280,190) (#94) CP+[GFX1]: [D2D1.1] 4CreateBitmap failure Size(70,43) Code: 0x8899000c format 1 (#95) CP+[GFX1]: [D2D1.1] 4CreateBitmap failure Size(70,70) Code: 0x8899000c format 1 (#96) CP+[GFX1]: [D2D1.1] 4CreateBitmap failure Size(70,70) Code: 0x8899000c format 1 (#97) CP+[GFX1-]: Detected rendering device reset on refresh (#98) CP+[GFX1-]: Detected rendering device reset on refresh (#99) CP+[GFX1-]: Detected rendering device reset on refresh Graphics Section: Graphics Features Compositing Direct3D 11 Asynchronous Pan/Zoom wheel input enabled; touch input enabled WebGL Renderer Google Inc. -- ANGLE (AMD Radeon R9 200 Series Direct3D11 vs_5_0 ps_5_0) Hardware H264 Decoding Yes; Using D3D11 API Direct2D true DirectWrite true (10.0.10586.0) GPU #1 Active Yes Description AMD Radeon R9 200 Series Vendor ID 0x1002 Device ID 0x6798 Driver Version 16.200.1010.1002 Driver Date 5-15-2016 Drivers aticfx64 aticfx64 aticfx64 amdxc64 aticfx32 aticfx32 aticfx32 amdxc32 atiumd64 atidxx64 atidxx64 atiumdag atidxx32 atidxx32 atiumdva atiumd6a atitmm64 Subsys ID 30011682 RAM 3072 GPU #2 Active No Description Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 Vendor ID 0x8086 Device ID 0x0162 Driver Version 10.18.10.4358 Driver Date 12-21-2015 Drivers igdumdim64 igd10iumd64 igd10iumd64 igdumdim32 igd10iumd32 igd10iumd32 Subsys ID 0000000c RAM Unknown Diagnostics ClearType Parameters D [ Gamma: 2200 Pixel Structure: R ClearType Level: 50 Enhanced Contrast: 100 ] D [ Gamma: 2200 Pixel Structure: R ClearType Level: 100 Enhanced Contrast: 50 ] D [ Gamma: 2200 Pixel Structure: R ClearType Level: 100 Enhanced Contrast: 50 ] AzureCanvasAccelerated 0 AzureCanvasBackend direct2d 1.1 AzureContentBackend direct2d 1.1 AzureFallbackCanvasBackend cairo ClearType Parameters D [ Gamma: 2200 Pixel Structure: R ClearType Level: 50 Enhanced Contrast: 100 ] D [ Gamma: 2200 Pixel Structure: R ClearType Level: 100 Enhanced Contrast: 50 ] D [ Gamma: 2200 Pixel Structure: R ClearType Level: 100 Enhanced Contrast: 50 ]
(In reply to Leman Bennett [Omega] from comment #0) > Description AMD Radeon R9 200 Series There is bug 1229375 about HWA broken with R9 series, but not sure your GPU is in the list of affected AMD GPUs.
(In reply to Loic from comment #1) > There is bug 1229375 about HWA broken with R9 series, but not sure your GPU > is in the list of affected AMD GPUs. Its a R9 280X. This wasn't an issue until very recently.
I turned off e10s and the viewport turns black and recovers instead of staying black. Every time this happens: Error Detected rendering device reset on refresh
Can you post an about:memory report from when this happening?

I'm also experiencing black screens every once in a while. In my case every site I then go to is all black. I have to exit and then start Fx to get back to normal. I haven't been able to reproduce the problem at will.
