Seems to already be bugs for Mac (bug 1308629) and Windows (bug 1135562) but not Linux.

RyanVM mentioned on IRC that we are seeing these crashes in Automation as well. Given that this signature affects all the way up to 53, what else can we do here? This signature although filed against Linux affects all platforms.

While I haven't touched that area of MediaShutdownManager specifically, how we shutdown the media stack has been changed (for the best I hope)

We'll have to see how that pans out.

Forgive is this is the wrong use case, see also used to have support.mozilla.org support. A user reported this in 52 https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Firefox/Several-problems-with-the-new-version/m-p/1374564#M1038624 Is there any update on this?

There are many factors that contribute to the shutdown hang which we must tackle down one by one. We should add them to the dependency of this bug so we can track them and decide whether to uplift the fixes.

In Firefox 52 this is the top Mac crash - https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/topcrashers/?platform=Mac%20OS%20X&product=Firefox&version=52.0&days=7. However, I don't recall the signature being that high in 51.

As I said in comment 6, there are many factors that contribute to the shutdown hang and bug 1343930 is just one of them. We should mark this bug as a meta bug to track those contributing bugs.
