just updated thunderbird to 51b1 and lightning auto updated... thunderbird would load then crash every time..
had to revert back to Thunderbird 50 and lightning 52.1

Just some background.. I have a Macbook running El Capitan (?) I usually keep thunderbird up to date, but also keep previous versions (or find them on ftp) in case as now there are issues. I also use Firefox :-)

I did not get one, just the report window, or at least I do not remember seeing one there. I will check the error log however last time I looked it was blank

I'll reinstall 51 and should it crash again will look for the ID

reinstall won't help...

disable Mac address book per https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1286613#c10
if the crashing stops then that's your bug.

I will follow the above but why should that be  prob now after 50 worked fine

needs to have access only if you are actually have data in the Mac address book.
how soon we get a fix is uknown.

Unfortunately I failed to note that this and comment 7 are so-called "report details" whose name misleads users to think it is important, and in fact are not very helpful. Sorry you got led astray.

But we now have Antony's crashids from bug 1286613, and it turns out this instead a duplicate of bug 1332246. Antony's bp-f809a931-629b-45cc-8711-9d3d32170126 using TB54.0a1 proves this is not fixed by bug 1286613
