User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_12_3) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/56.0.2924.87 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce: OS: MacOS 10.12.3 and earlier versions Thunderbird 45 and earlier When sending an email, from time to time Thunderbird freezes. It is not reproducible, since it doesn't happen all the time Actual results: Thunderbird frozen. Need to force quit application and start it again. Expected results: No freeze.
The issue is similar to bug 1262517. To avoid this issue: Disable Mac Spotlight Integration: Thunderbird preferences -> Advanced -> General -> uncheck "Allow Spotlight to search messages
In the end, the bug appeared again even without the option "Allow Spotlight to search messages". I then tried to also disabled the option "Enable Global Search and Indexer". I did not have have freeze since 10 days. I will try now with: * option "Allow Spotlight to search messages" * without the option "Enable Global Search and Indexer" and see what happens.

485M global-messages-db.sqlite (In reply to Wayne Mery (:wsmwk, NI for questions) from comment #3) > (In reply to Simone from comment #2) > > ... > > I will try now with: > > > > * option "Allow Spotlight to search messages" > > * without the option "Enable Global Search and Indexer" > > > > and see what happens. > > What were your results? Well, indeed two days later I changed again approach since I really needed the Global Search for my daily usage. I did a reset of two mailnews.database.global.* preferences, I think global_reindex_time and datastore.id. Since then I didn't notice any crash. > And what is size of global-messages-db.sqlite in your thunderbird profile between 450M and 500M (same size before the reset of the parameters above)
Yesterday I have updated to 52.1.1 (64-bit). Since then, Thunderbird hung three times! I have now reset mailnews.database.global.datastore.id , we'll see if there are other hung-ups

Still happening? How about with nightlly? https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm-central/thunderbird-57.0a1.en-US.mac.dmg

In the last 3 months it happened once. I have always sticked to the current release, (this Morning: 52.2.1 (64-bit)) I have installed Daily 57.0a1, let's see if it shows up again. Would you like me do update Daily regularly or to keep 57.0a1 ?

What matters most is your feedback and reporting of results. What antivirus software do you run? How much memory and CPU is Thunderbird using when it hangs?

Summary: hung sending email with MacOSx → Rare hang sending email with MacOSx
I have no antivirus installed. I have been using the stable release (up-to-date) - without allowing spotlight to search messages - with Enable global search and indexer The problem did not show anymore. I can try with a) using earlybird with the settings above b) allow spotlight to search messages c) both Please let me know what I can do Best regards Simone

I guess more important than beta, is to conclude which of these two is involved
