Not sure whether to opt for the component as being UX, Contrib Forums, or General ? but opted for UX partly because seasoned contributors may well just opt for using their customised browser spellchecker. See also bug 1338018 However our site is aimed at people new to Firefox and possibly computing so it would seem a good idea and help our professional image if our spellchecker helped them, and did not flag obviously correct words to do with Sumo as wrong.

This is a very bad User Experience the Spell Checker has not been customised at all for our use. It will not even recognise Mozilla or Firefox.
Additionally and related although I have not yet filed a separate bug the searches on Sumo Lithium come up with totally inappropriate suggestions for what are appropriate search words and strings. One example it suggested blackmail instead of gmail.

As part of this it may make sense to allow Mods and Admins to add words to the dictionary that is used. Many of those words may well be appropriate to multiple locales I imagine: "Internet", "Gmail" and abbreviations such as "HTML" are international so it would be a pity if they were added only to en-US.

Perhaps there is a shortcut to doing some of this by using some pre existing open source spellchecker dictionary or listing to add suitable words rather than trying just to do it manually. A useful exercise would be to spell check all our KB articles and add words as necessary so that all or almost all words are recognised.

I classed this under severity an enhancement as I know we have many open bugs, but personally I think it could be considered major, at least untill we have got as far as stopping the Lithium Native spellchecker flagging Firefox and Mozilla as wrongly spelled|spelt.

Also we at sumo use en-US many people will use other versions of English, such as the original British or maybe
I can't see the point in using the Lithium spellcheck feature, at all! Users come to SuMO for help with their Firefox questions, not to learn how to use the forum software. What's the point in confusing users by making it more difficult for them to obtain support?

And the manner in which this feature works is different than anything else that I have ever used; and it only works (like) halfway. Lithium completely overrides the built-in Firefox spellcheck feature, and then the Lithium only spellcheck works when HTML is selected for the Reply.

Rich Text doesn't "deserve" a spellcheck? Was that done on purpose? Or is that a shortcoming in the Lithium package? It seems like something that should have been discovered during Beta testing by SuMO support contributors?

Bottom line is to forget enhancing it - get rid of it and let Firefox (or other browser) "do its' thing" as far as spell checking a users posting.
Lithium is popular software, so users of Sumo may well have come a cross it before and be familiar with it & how its spellchecker works.
Users may also have used word processing software offline or online where a spell checker may work in a similar manner. Software often has options to check the whole document. I agree of course the UX experience of this is bad, but that would be a separate bug.

After a; so far undocumented; change in Lithium I understand Firefox's spell checker does now work on Lithium.

I am not sure is the Lithium spell checker working on KB writing?
I am also aware Lithium spell checker is available on Sumo en-US as British. The spell checker well also be available in other locales. So far we do not have many locales where AAQ Firefox support is provided. does the Firefox spell checker also work now on them I wonder?
+NI from Madalina for handling & prioritization.

I note this moved from the push to Lithium to the blacked section of the Trello.
It is easy to see the issues on prod even without the Lithium platform having users on it.
