I made some errors in my bookmarks lately, so I deleted them all and imported them from a bookmark file I keep. First off, my Personal Toolbar Folder wasn't immediately set, but I read another bug about that already. I thought I'd fix it by picking Set as Personal Toolbar Folder from the View menu in Manage Bookmarks. No matter what I try, I just can't seem to get it to work. I'm using RC1 on Windows XP.

I have observed this bug under Linux since at least version 0.9.8. The OS field should be changed to "all" since this seems to be an OS-independant problem. This bug is extremely annoying as it makes it impossible to have a non-empty personal toolbar once you delete the one that Mozilla originally creates for you. Thus I have been without a personal toolbar for many months now.

A little additional information: The only folder I imported from my bookmarks was a Personal Folder Toolbar. This was at that time the only folder that I had in my bookmarks. Adding a new directory and marking that directory as PFT worked fine. After that I could also switch the PFT back to the folder I imported.

same problem here, tested with Linux, SuSE 8.0, mozilla 1.0 RC2 Windows 2000, SP2, mozilla 1.0 RC2 build 2002051406 as Martin pointed out, after deleting all bookmarks, then importing bookmarks, you cant set the Personal Toolbar Folder as PTF. you have to set first a different folder as PTF, after doing that its possible to set PTF as PTF

I have something remarked with 1.0rc3, which is similar to this. The problem is when you have the bookmarks sidebar open, and once clicken on the "Personal Toolbar" there, then you go to the real Personal Toolbar, doing a right click on a bookmark there and hit delete. The focus is not passed to the Bookmark on the personal toolbar instead you just delete only the entries in the Sidebar Bookmarks tab, unforunatley I remarked this, too late, I was just wondering why the bookmars on the "Personal Toolbar" don't get deleted. When I saw that I was actually deleting in the sidebar Bookmarks tab only it was too late, and I had deleted the Personal Toolbar Folder already. Now, I think it should be possible to get it back just by drag & drop a site onto the Personal Toolbar, this somehow worked in Netscape4 and I bet as well in Mozilla for some time. But now it doesn't. This should be fixed in 1.0, because I always wondered when I sat in front of other people's Computers that there was no Personal Toolbar and dragging a site on the personal toolbar didn't work. Now, I understand why this happened. So, I'm of the opinion that this does not occur infrequently, and that a "Newbie" does not know that he/she has to set a new Personal Toolbar first.

It has just appeared for me too. I actually use Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.0.0) Gecko/20020610 Debian/1.0.0-1. I renamed ~/.mozilla (used in previous mozilla installations) in ~/.mozilla-pre1.0, installed mozilla 1.0 and started it. I imported my old mozilla bookmarks, I removed the two bookmarks from the default PTD (I do not remember if I removed the PDF too). After that, setting a new (imported) folder as PTF did not work. I restarted mozilla: it does not work either. Finally, I set another folder as PTF and it worked. After that, I have finally set my PDF to the folder I have tried before, and it worked.

I occasionally deleted my personal toolbar folder yesterday. So I had to try getting it back and I now found sure steps to set personal toolbar folder and I (think I) know when It's not woking. (On Moz. 1.0.0 / 1.1a / Windows) Steps I did: * Go to Bookmark Manager. * Create a new folder ("Personal Toolbar Folder") * View -> Set as.... => Won't work! But: * Go to BM * Create a Toolbar folder * Create a Subfolder of this * Select the Subfolder, View -> Set as "Personal tool..." * Select the parent (Toolbar) folder * View -> Set as... => It will work! You have to set the atribute to a subfolder an then you can set the parent folder of this as Toolbar folder. This worked in Moz. 1.0 and 1.1a reproducable.

Upgrading to the 8/26 build (win2k) removed my personal toolbar. Even worse, the only remaining item on the bar (bookmarks) had no bookmarks listed!. I had to manage the bookmarks and close that before the bookmarks reappeared. (this is required every time mozilla is started). But tip #7 did restore my personal toolbar folder.

Dunno if this is 100% the correct bug, but when I delete my Personal Toolbar, and then select another folder for this, it does not work. Put the biggest problem, is that I now can not drag any links to the Personal Toolbar. If this is the correct bug for this problem the severity should be raised.

Looking at my Explanation on #7 I think you have exactly the same problem. If my solution does not work for you, you should tell more about your prob.

I experienced similar problems after first importing my old bookmarks and then deleting the default "Personal toolbar folder". Using the edit->"Set as Personal toolbar folder" on some other folder and afterwards using it to the correct (the old one) "Personal toolbar folder" worked for me.

Continues to exist with Mozilla 1.2b on Windows XP. Since I often copy my updated work bookmark file from work and import it into my home PC, I've noticed this for a long time. I use the work around, of temporarily selecting another folder as personal toolbar folder, then going back and setting the Personal Toolbar Folder as the personal toolbar folder. Any idea when this will be fixed?

This problem if fixed for me in 1.3 final / WinXP. I can succesfully do the following things: 1) delete "Personal Toolbar Folder" from within BM ==> at this point the folder is deleted but the changes aren't updated to the toolbar! 2) assign folder "Mozilla" as new PTF with "View|Set as personal toolbar folder" ==> at this point the toolbar gets updated but not all the time properly. sometimes the contents of the folder Mozilla gets ADDED to the items which were deleted but still present in the folder, but that sort of thing goes away with a browser restart 3) then create folder "PTF" and make it the active PTF with the BM. This means that the requiremend of the workaround of bug #88711 , which involved the requirement that the folder be named "Personal Toolbar Folder" is no longer true. So WORKSFORME except XUL update bugs when switching PTF assignment.
