Details
Just after loading the *first* instance of Navigator with present Sidebar *closed*; no other Mozilla components running from the Mozilla startup. (if is not colsed, close it and restart Mozilla) To reproduce: - click and hold the mouse on the splitter on the grip - drag to enlarge (open) the Sidebar No tabs are displayed ! This also works the first load of messenger, acting on the horizontal splitter (between the message folders and the Sidebar). IMHO the gulty is not the code controlling the splitter widget, since I can't see this problem at the first load of messenger with a pane closed (except for the behaviour for Sidebar described above). Here the interesting part, can't reproduce in: - Composer. The Sidebar doesn't show the next time Composer is restarted (another bug here ?). Pressing F9 display the Sidebar open. - Addressbook, although the layout is very similar to the one used in Messenger (at my 1# sight, at least) !
I can see the above behaviour on 1.0 Release Candidate 1. Not clear to me if this is a dupe of bug 123205 , it seems it might have some relation also with bug 121215

Andrea, you might be seeing these problems: bug 139741 or bug 119975 I tried your steps and I was able to reproduce once...but then tried again a couple times and could not reproduce. try again with new profile.
Yes.. dup of bug 119975 / bug 116520. This has been going on since around December. As I see it, it hasn't got to do with new profile or not - it occures intermittently. Hitting F9 twice will always "fix" it.. Resolving as dup. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 119975 ***
