1413510 - gmail downloading same message over and over (repeatedly, stuck) and therefore not downloading new messages

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/61.0.3163.100 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

Downloading mail from gmail account and domain accounts.


Actual results:

Domain accounts working fine. Gmail appears to be stuck and hasn't downloaded any new messages in a week. It is downloading one message over and over.


Expected results:

Messages should download. I have used mozilla to manage all my email accounts for years without incident. Suddenly, it is downloading only one message over and over in my gmail account.

The usual advice for this scenario is to deal with the errant message at the provider's webmail portal. My understanding is that if the message is malformed, Thunderbird may not recognize that it has fully downloaded and so leaves it in the queue. I don't know if this is a bug in Thunderbird. I suspect it is rather a strict interpretation and application of the standards, and when we encounter a non-compliant message, message processing cannot complete properly.

Other clients may not be strict, and so succeed in the download. This makes Thunderbird /look/ buggy.
