Used 05-08-05-1.0.0 build
Fresh Install Mac OS 9 (remove "Mozilla Registry" & Mozilla directory)
Create profile and access mail and try to exit|quit, cannot find Quit menu item
to quit. Need to Force Quit.

Nominating nsbeta1 since users should be able to quit without using Force Quit.

Whiteboard: [ADT1]
1) I see the same on Mac OSX 10.1.3, the same yesterday's build.
No File|Exit menu item on Browser and Mail - only Mac. But shortcut Cmd+Q works
from Browser and Mail.
No problem on Win2K. No problem on Linux.
2) Also unexpected File|Page Setup on Mail - only on Mac. This menu item belongs
to Browser only, not Mail (currently it does not bring anything).
Using commercial builds: 2002-05-09-05-1.0.0/ on mac 9.2.2
I see the quit menu item in both browser/messenger and I can
successfully quit using the menu item or apple-q.
Olga is correct in that bringing up Page Setup in messenger
does nothing. File|Page setup has been in previous builds of messenger such
as 6.2, 6.21, etc

getting on the beta stopper radar and rc2 stopper radar. We need to get a fix
for this today.
Comment 10•23 years ago

On today's build 2002-05-09-05-1.0.0, Mac OSX 10.1.3:
Both Browser and Mail don't have File|Exit. Cmd+Q works.
The same for Composer, Address Book, Instant Messenger, mail Compose, Mail stand
alone window.

Unable to reproduce, using today's NS branch builds on 8.6 & 10.1.3. Note that
Mac products don't have 'Exit', 8.6 has File:Quit, and OS X has Netscape:Quit
Netscape.

right, File > Quit shouldn't be there for OS X (oops).
Karen, is this seen in Mac 9.x? or, rather, is File > Quit missing in 9.x bits? if
so, that is a bug.

I am unable to reproduce with today's (2002050905) Mozilla branch bits on OS
8.5, 9.2 and 10.1.4. Also tested yesterday's builds and there are no problems
with File|Quit or Mozilla|Quit. I've tested with old and new profiles.

I still can reproduce this problem on today Mach V Beta Mac 9.x build.
And I can reproduce it all the time once I involve Mail.

More info, Sarah and I found that after involve Mail, close Mail window & close
Browser then Quit, then you will be able to reproduce this problem all the
time......
Comment 16•23 years ago
|
||
when i was at karen's machine i was able to get a reduced test case for this.
the problem is that when there are no windows open, much of the File menu
(including Quit) is missing.
1. created a new profile
2. launched browser.
3. closed browser window --did *not* quit app-- eg, cmd+W or clicking the
upperleft close widget.
4. go to menubar (which should persist), and try to select File > Quit
results: Quit is missing.
more details in a bit...

this is fine using 2002.05.07.05-1.0.0 bits; this is broken starting with
2002.05.08.05-1.0.0 bits. tested on Mac OS 9.1.
expected:
when there are no windows and only a menubar, you should still be able to
dropdown all the menus. some items will be inactive (Print), some enabled
(Quit), but that's also expected.
actual results:
can only dropdown the File menu --which oddly contains only two help oriented
items (About balloon help, Show balloons). in fact, just when i click on the
File menu label, the label changes to Help. moreover, in this state, one cannot
quit using the keyboard --cmd+Q is non-responsive. i resorted to using Macsbug
to force quit.

Okay, with no windows I can fully reproduce on 8.6, and can repro everything but
the lack of a Quit item on OS X.

I see this on my OS9 build. Ever since I had this problem I haven't been able
to consistently run the build on my Mac without having to reboot within a minute
of launch. :-/
Comment 21•23 years ago

okay, so this affects all Mac OS's (except that as peter points out, the
Netscape menu on OS X is accessible, allowing quitting the app). more
resummarizing. :)

don't see this using 2002.05.09 trunk comm bits on 10.1.4 or 9.1.
is this reproducible with mozilla bits?

I can reproduce this with mozilla branch bits (now that I understand the steps).
If I close all Mozilla windows then my menubar goes away and I can't Quit the
application.
