User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:57.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/57.0 Build ID: 20180106205129 Steps to reproduce: 1. Open Thunderbird 2. Click 'Get Messages' Actual results: Downloaded mail in Inbox and Sent folders Expected results: Thunderbird should have automatically downloaded Deleted/Trash ans Spam/Junk folders Manual workaround: Click on these folders to download messages. Thank you
Summary: Default setting: Download Deleted and Spam Folders when "Get Messages" → Default setting: Download Deleted/Trash ans Spam/Junk folders when "Get Messages"
(In reply to Óvári from comment #0) > Thunderbird should have automatically downloaded Deleted/Trash ans Spam/Junk > folders Hmm, aren't these folders *not* synchronised for offline use? Who wants the unwanted stuff on their machine?
(In reply to Jorg K (GMT+1) [Very limited availability 18-22 Jan 2018] from comment #2) > (In reply to Óvári from comment #0) > > Thunderbird should have automatically downloaded Deleted/Trash ans Spam/Junk > > folders > Hmm, aren't these folders *not* synchronised for offline use? Who wants the > unwanted stuff on their machine? Unfortunately, there are messages in Spam/Junk that should be in the Inbox. Having the messages on the machine enables the messages to be dragged into the Inbox. The folders can also be deleted frequently too.
In this case, doesn't it work to select the folder for offline use and then the content will always be downloaded?
(In reply to Óvári from comment #1) > May relate to: > bug 1322068 > bug 1431562 I don't see what this bug has to do with either (In reply to Jorg K (GMT+1) from comment #4) > In this case, doesn't it work to select the folder for offline use and then > the content will always be downloaded? Ovari? (These imap folders should already marked for offline use by default)

(In reply to Jorg K (GMT+1) from comment #4) > In this case, doesn't it work to select the folder for offline use and then > the content will always be downloaded? Thunderbird does not mark for offline by default. (In reply to Wayne Mery (:wsmwk) from comment #5) > Ovari? (These imap folders should already marked for offline use by default) Recommend that Thunderbird mark all folders for offline use by default. Otherwise users may not get alerts about emails, whether the alert is in the tray or the junk folder changes with a star. (In reply to Wayne Mery (:wsmwk) from comment #6) > xref bug 602308 Thank you for finding a cross reference.

> Recommend that Thunderbird mark all folders for offline use by default. This isn't going to happen unless the performance of this mode greatly improves. (which also increases server load) And bug 602308 would also be a prerequisite for what you wish to accomplish

It could well be that a decision was made to not enable sync for these folders because Gloda does not index messages from these folders (if I remmeber correctly).

duplicate bug 1520921 ?

Looks like Matt decided for me.

Anyway, I learned something new yesterday and hope it helps with this bug and 1520921.

Too bad you decided not to change the way that Thunderbird download emails just like every other mail client. They all download for offline use the Trash and Spam folder.

Now I am stuck after every installation of Thunderbird, for every account: Settings / Synchronization / Advanced and manually check everything so that Thunderbird has a normal behavior.

Thunderbird is unique.

What is the logic to closing this bug Óvári I realise it has been sitting here unconfirmed for years, but the failure to download all mail from all folders is becoming an oft commented issue in support. So this wontfix feels wrong to me.

Check my issue bug 1520921 which is the same. It has been confirmed.

When people ask for help with this issue, could you ask them to cc themselves to this issue? Could this provide better exposure of this issue to the Thunderbird steering committee and core developers?

Check my issue bug 1520921 which is the same. It has been confirmed.

It looks like your issue has never confirmed only marked as resolved as a duplicate of this issue.
