Details

Currently bookmarks can take a long time to import/export/backup/restore depending on how many there are. We may want to consider adding progress indications so users know when they are finished. This bug is intended to consolidate requests and provide a central place where we can decide if they are necessary or not. Note: performance of import/export/backup is being worked on at the moment, so this could become redundant in future.
Fwiw, I think we should block browser shutdown, rather than show a progress bar that in the best case would be very imprecise. it could at a maximum be an undetermined progress bar showing we are doing "something", but wouldn't prevent any of the risks involved with closing the browser while the work is ongoing. Imo, the problem exists, but a progress bar is not a valid solution to it.
