User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0 Build ID: 20180309100425 Steps to reproduce: 1. Install via flatpak in Arch Linux the latest Firefox Nightly build (as of writing version 60 2018-03-08) from https://firefox-flatpak.mojefedora.cz. 2. Run the flatpak build of Firefox Nightly on KDE Plasma 5.12.3 on Wayland. Actual results: Only a blank page is rendered, mouse input is not accepted and the mouse cursor is invisible. Expected results: You can move the mouse in the Firefox Wayland window in Plasma, use the GUI elements and you can open web pages.

Problem seems to be solved on enlightenment, still reproduced om kde-plasma
On KDE Plasma-Wayland there is still only a blank page rendered by Firefox-Nightly 62 (2018-05-09) and I cannot see the mouse. Window decoration is missing as well, but I think this is due to a open Gtk bug. $ env | grep DISPLAY DISPLAY=:0 WAYLAND_DISPLAY=wayland-0

The KDE Plasma on Wayland is still a tech preview...let's wait when it matures a bit.

Also does other native wayland apps work for you on Plasma/KDE? For instance "gedit".

Not sure if this was a serious comment. If you consider Gnome Wayland a tech preview, then you can say Plasma-Wayland is one as well. Otherwise Plasma-Wayland is considered stable by the devs since version 5.12. I use Plasma-Wayland since a long time and most of the Gtk applications work well too. Firefox is one of the last applications that doesn't work for me on Wayland directly. But I understand that you need to get the Wayland port done first for Gnome.

When I run KDE Plasma (Wayland) on Fedora 28 (plasma-workspace-wayland-5.12.5-3.fc28.x86_64) I see only a black screen with a mouse pointer and it does nothing (OTOH default KDE works ok). Also https://community.kde.org/KWin/Wayland states that it's "tech preview". That all gives me an impression that's not finished yet. I'll give it a try if you say it's actually finished.

I can only refer to the release notes https://www.kde.org/announcements/plasma-5.12.0.php, Wayland is supported by the LTS release. By this definition I would say it is finished. Assuming all packages are installed correctly by the dependencies of the Fedora package "plasma-workspace-wayland", probably Plasma just doesn't start correctly. If you see a mouse pointer on the black screen just try to press ALT + F2 and you should see the krunner konsole, type "plasmashell" and press enter. Or maybe it is an issue with the Intel/Radeon driver, I only use mesa modesetting on my systems. There is a blog post from Martin Flöser https://blog.martin-graesslin.com/blog/2016/07/why-does-kwin_wayland-not-start/ explaining some details. When I tested Plasma-Wayland several months ago on Fedora and a Intel GPU, it all worked well. I would expect that Fedora provides some documentation regarding KDE and Wayland as well. Hope that this was not too much off topic for this bug report.

Yes I finally reproduced that and there's lots of warnings like: [16686, Compositor] WARNING: No drawing buffer available can you confirm that?

Where would I see the warnings? I looked at dmesg and the output on the terminal when I started Firefox from there, but I didn't see these warnings. Thanks

Warnings would only be output from debug builds.

I can reproduce that on wayland-1.15 / gnome-shell, seems to be caused by incorrect wl_subsurface initialization when get_subsurface is double buffered at wayland-1.15 and also the detached state has to be set after first commit to parent surface.

(In reply to David Heidelberg from comment #21) > for me after some updates it got automagically fixed.. (not a firefox > update, some system updates) My Arch Linux system is up to date as well, but Firefox on Wayland on Plasma still shows only a blank page. Are you sure this is not XWayland? What does the kwin debug console (ALT + F2, type kwin and press enter) tell you? Is it really a Wayland Window?

As the bug has been marked as resolved, I'm not sure if this is expected to work now. I've downloaded the latest flatpak build of org.mozilla.FirefoxNightly-origin (ff4c5c3271d3) and I've tested this now on different machines with AMD and Intel GPU's with Mesa modesetting drivers, but there is still only a blank page visible on Plasma 5.13.3. The input is sometimes at least recognized to open blindly a web page.

I filed a follow up bug - Bug 1478283
