delete toolbar button disabled when it shouldn't be.
I've seen this from time to time, I want to squash it.
I saw a user run into it during jglick's UE session, so adding [ue] to status
whiteboard.
this user had a message selected in the thread pane, and delete was disabled.
I'm not sure if the thread pane or the message pane had focus. they might have
collapsed the folder pane.

There are also some focus problems related to both the delete button and the
next message button in mail.
Click the root node of a users account. Now click on a folder such as Inbox or a
custom folder a user has created. The Next and Delete buttons in the toolbar are
disabled. Now click on the message pane or the subject pane. Click back on the
Inbox or a custom folder and both the Delete and Next buttons become enabled.
Clicking on the Inbox or a custom folder should enable the Next and Delete buttons.

Discussed in mail news bug meeting. Need info: need a reproduce-able case.
Whiteboard: [ue] → [ue],needinfo
Usually Delete button is enabled in our common way to click on Inbox then on a
message. Also when click on any folder starting from Inbox - Delete button is
enabled.
If start from Account level and go down clicking on each folder - Delete button
is disabled.
My logic moved me to these steps:
1. Click on Account level.
2. From Central page click 'Read Messages'.
3. Select a message. Result - Delete button is disabled.
Oops, next time I do this - it's enabled again.
It seems really ocassionally. Okey, I continue.
I have found the reproducible case for the Delete button disabling when Messages
are selected, using 20020607branch build:
1. Launch app
2. Open your mail account (doesn't matter, IMAP or POP)
3. Messages sorted by date ascending for this test, select the last message
received.
4. Collapse this mail account in folder pane
5. Send a message to that account and do Get Msg while the account is collapsed.
6. Expand the account, select Inbox, select any message
Result: Delete button disabled when messages are selected and stays disabled for
this mail account only until you exit.
Expected: Delete button enabled when mail messages are selectd.
If the Thread Pane has focus and a mail message is selected, Delete should
always be enabled. If Message Pane has focus, Delete is enbled, msg being
displayed is deleted.
When the Folder/Account Pane has focus, if an Acct is selected, Delete is
disabled. If a special folder has focus (Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash), Delete is
disabled. If a user created Folder has focus, Delete button can be enabled as a
way to remove the folder, with confirmation (currently, it looks like we disable
Delete in this case too. I don't feel strongly either way, as long as we are
consistent).
Note: for step 2 make sure you have logged in and retrieved your messages before
going to step 3

FYI - Using 20020607 branch build, Esther's steps recreate the problem. Using
20020603 branch build, it's not reproducable - works as expected (Delete button
is enabled).

One more thing, I found another way to get the Delete button back to enabled
state. Select the browser window, then go back to 3-pane and select another
message. The Delete button will enable again.

Here is another reproducible way to get into a "delete button disabled" state.
1. Launch Mozilla
2. Window->Mail&News
(My panes are like this: Left pane is the tree of mail/news servers and folders,
right pane is a list of date-sorted messages. Also I have set "When I delete.."
to "Mark it as deleted" for the selected server.)
3. Menu-click some message, e. g. a newly arrived junkmail.
4. Choose "Delete" from the pop-up menu. Red "X" is obtained, fine.
5. Select-click some other junk message.
At this point the Delete button is disabled. Deleting with the DEL key still
works, by the way.
(Platform: Win2K, Mozilla build: 2002072104 aka 1.1beta)

Running BFTs on branch build I did see this problem. I had multiple accounts in
my profile. Even when I switched between different accounts the delete button
was still disabled. After I logged into webmail account the delete button got
enabled again. I noticed delete button got disable after I logged into aol account.
Not sure how I got into that state. ( branch build: 2002-07-29 on win98)

Now I add 'nsbeta1' keyword for Buffy. Sorry, it's faster to edit multiple bugs
at once than manually go to each and remove minus.

Just moved to WinXP and 1.2.1 and started seeing this (extremely annoying) behavior.
The delete button is enabled when I click on messages in some folders, but not
in others. Using IMAP. Folder permissions verified correct.

I can no longer reproduce this bug in 1.4 on Windows.

The symptom described by Esther in comment 7 is no longer reproducible (1.4
Final, and as noted in comment 10).
Comment 13 seems to be IMAP specific, as was Jack Tanner's symptom which he can
no longer reproduce. Rabbe Fogelholm, do you still see this problem?
re: Comment 2, the Delete button *is* enabled if focus is on a custom folder in
the folder pane (1.4 Final) and *should not* be enabled, if the Inbox has the
focus in the folder pane. The Next button probably should be enabled when a
folder is selected, but that is bug 141956.
I suspect this bug could be WFM'd.

Error in above comment; 'enable next when folder selected' is bug 112658, not
141956.
