To add from multiple predefined text strings at the insertion point.

For example

modifier key 1  "price list"
modifier key 2 "delivery details file...."
modifier key 3  "Signature...."
etc

I like command keys but a drop down selection pane, contextual menu option or
other ui implemtation could also be considered.  Preferably account centric.

After managing to Dup bug 62429 - (Replying with the "start my reply above the
quoted text" signature placement issue) This I hope could be a resolution and an
otherwise very usefull feature. I searched other open bugs and found a signature
selection feature request bug 37644, but that seemed focused on an identifiable
signature insert.  PS. The Outlook Express signature insertion overwrites any
previously inserted signatures which defeated my efforts to get this type of
functionality out of THAT program. Hence the need to distinguish from just a
signature.

Recommend WONTFIX. This should be done at the OS level, not in individual apps.

Jonas, your comment is certainly right in an ideal world. But it would be a nice
feature for a mail/news reader anyways. If it is not available on OS level, it
would enable this feature cross platform for Mozilla consistently.

Marking NEW and leaving it for owner to decide.

I respond to hundreds of e-mails per week, but they are usually asking (several
of) a few common questions.  I need to give one (or sometimes several) of
about 20 very long canned replies, with some small customizations for their
particular case.

My only way of doing this currently in Mozilla is to keep my canned replies in a
big message in Drafts or Templates and switch from compose window to
canned-reply window, scroll/click/drag to highlight relevant section, cut,
switch back to compose window, paste.  Repeat for additional questions they may ask.

I would LOVE for this Request For Enhancement to be completed.

My opinion is that this would be best as a "fly-out" menu item in the
right-click pop-up menu when composing an e-mail, and/or in the Insert menu. 
Keyboard shortcut as suggested in the Summary is okay too, but that would be my
3rd choice.  Really any of the 3 is 90% of the way there in my opinion, so I
would be thrilled.

I don't think it is necessary that the "snips" are editable within Mozilla (as
some people say it should be done for signatures).  It seems enough if each snip
menu label is tied to a text or html file.  If there must be a length limit
please let it be fairly large (say, > 50kb).

Having a way to order the snips within the menu would be icing on the cake, but
even if I had to edit prefs.js by hand to re-order them, I would still be as
happy as Larry.


Lastly, it is awesome to see that bug 62429 [if reply is above quoted text, sig
should be too] will be in a release soon.  That would almost have done what I'm
looking for, since I could use a different From: account setting for each
desired canned-reply answer but I would only be able to answer one question per
e-mail that way.

Also in bug 73567 I made a suggestion that is similar what I'm saying here, but
if that bug sticks to the normal concept of signature, being a few lines
inserted after your message to identify you, then that won't quite do it either
(where "after" for top-replyers could be after your reply, but before the quoted
messages, or below everything).

p.s. I also have a friend with similar e-mail habits.  A similar feature
(inserting signatures anytime at the cursor position) is the only thing keeping
him on OE and Wondows.  This RFE being done would make his year because he could
get away from |v|irusSoft.  If a mozilla.org donation would speed this along, he
may be willing, please let me know what you think (by e-mail if you prefer).
