+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #1077740 +++
The original bug didn't touch *.start*.mozilla.com URLs, which was the format used from Firefox 1.0 through 3.6.x.
We still see traffic to start.mozilla.org (and DNS for start*.mozilla.com is currently broken, but will be fixed (and will be actively monitored once bug 1491329 gets resolved). That's even from Fx62 users.
I suspect the best fix will be to dust off that old migration code, fix it to also clean up .com URLs, and add it to the end of migrateUI with a new version. It's pretty self-contained, so if it's resolved quickly we could potentially uplift ot Fx63, but that's not a blocker. That we still have folks on Fx62 with start.mozilla.org suggests we should re-migrate everyone if needed.

Also, we should probably reset to about:newtab instead of about:home since about:home is about:newtab now.

The default is about:home, so we should stick with that for now. If we want to unify the two and remove the about:home alias, we should probably do it somewhere else (as it'll need a separate migration).

Makes sense and thanks for the clarification.

Probably an easy fix to pick up in the 68 cycle, and clean up bogus entries.
