(Reporter: bluchris, Unassigned)
Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:64.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/64.0
Steps to reproduce:
Ubuntu 18.04.1
Thunderbird 60.2.1 64 bit
There are older bugs with similar Problem: Bug 397109, Bug 736782, Bug 1361020
It seems, that bug is back?
This is what happened, step by step:
1. Click on mailbox name
2. click on "account settings"
3. click on "server settings"
4. click on "fetch headers only"
5. click "ok"
6. click "get mail"
7. click "inbox"
8. click on a mail header
9. mail viewing window pops up with content notice as expected
"Not Downloaded
"Only the headers for this message were downloaded from the mail server.
Click here to download the rest of the message.
10. I click on "here"
11. Mail disappears! More precisely, the header line disappears, with no mail to be found in "junk" or "trash." Mail was not marked "junk" in any way.
Actual results:
The workaround described here( https://www.thunderbird-mail.de/forum/thread/80671-update-von-52-9-1-auf-60-2-1-nur-noch-kopfzeile-mail-inhalt-wird-nicht-angezeigt/?postID=440520#post440520) worked!
Interestingly, the bug does not appear on two customer computers (Mint Mate18.3, 64 bit and Thunderbird 60.2.1 and Ubuntu Mate 18.04.64bit and Thunderbird 60.2.1).
But more Ubuntu-Computers have the Problem.

I could not reproduce this using Thunderbird 60.2.1 en-US 64-bit from Ubuntu on Ubuntu 18.04.1 or Linux Mint 19.
Does the same problem occur using safe mode? Use Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

Hello WaltS48,

Try a test profile.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-multiple-profiles
And what is the work around that works for you?
The problem occurs in October 2018 on many Computers of our clients +/- 2 weeks.
There are other users in fora (ubuntuusers...) tested test profil - not working.
The workaround is:
Datei --> offline --> ausgewählte Nachrichten herunterladen
in english perhaps: file --> offline --> get selected messages

By clients you mean you are an email provider or a computer consultant.
I can not reproduce using Thunderbird on Ubuntu 18.04.1, Linux Mint 19 or with Thunderbird 60.4.0 on Windows 10.
I'm working in a computerschool.
Is there a log-file anywhere we can have a look on?

Each student has their own installation of Thunderbird and a profile to match?
> Is there a log-file anywhere we can have a look on?
Tools > Developer Tools > Error Console or just use the Ctrl+Shift+J key combination.

Yes, this went broken again, see bug 1503395 comment #3, but got fixed again in TB 60.3.x. It only happened when a global inbox was used.

Hello Jorg K,
this explains the different occurrence of the error with the same system requirements!
thanks a lot!

What are you saying exactly? That you've installed TB 60.3.x and the problem went away? Or that you are using a global inbox and are still affected using TB 60.2.1?

...that we wait until ubuntu and mint offers TB 60.3.x
...that some of our clients using a global inbox so as me too and this (the global inbox) explains why one user (by same system requirements) has the problem and another not.
