URL is old. This URL: http://www.mtv.it/music/profili/kylie/tv.asp also shows
the problem. Looks like this is a plugin problem that affects 1.1+ on PC/All.
See the two bugs that will be duped below this comment. (I *think* this is right.)
*** Bug 152574 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
*** Bug 153749 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
well maybe the summary should ba canged, because this doe not only affect
Realplayer.
And this isn`t realy an activeX issue.
Mozilla attemps to download the plugin spezified by the site!(And that is an
activeX control for IE, so it's located at acitiveX.microsoft)
If you tell tolook up Plug-Ins at netcape everytime, it will go there(and find
no matches).
After all: the summary of this bug is very misleading.
OS: All → Linux
Summary: activeX media control bypassing realplayer play, stop, pause commands doesn't run on mozilla and it show me application/x-oleobject missing plugin → activeX media control bypassing realplayer play, stop, pause commands doesn't run on mozilla and it show me application/x-oleobject missing plugin, but it run perfectly on Windows. the problem affects only Linux
But on www.tf1.fr/video you can't see any videos... also in window$!
what da***
Now summary is changed
BUT:
AS the screensots i attached to bug 66015 clearly show:
1. This is not happening only on Linux (i added my about:plugins to bug 153749
which was marked as a duplicate of this bug)
THIS IS HAPPENING on Win98 aswell!
2.This is not related to realplayer in any way!(it is more related to
x-oleobject in my opinion)by the way: the URL tries to use WMP not Realplayer.
I think that is non-sense
3.I already pointed out that this is not related to activeX (mozilla does not
support that grab, as you might now).
Mozilla tries to download an activeX control which was disigned for the Internet
Explorer. Moz does so cause it is configured to look up the plugin at the source
the page defines.(i already posted this! (look above))
So on Linux it is nothing more than expected if you try to use WMP.
I read that this won't happen on WinXP. Maybe theres something broken on Win98
only? my plugins are definitly uptodate. and plugin is recognizedd an enabled my
about:plugins clearly shows!
The problem is with embedded plugin players. On Linux, it affects RealPlayer,
RealOne Player, and, through Crossover, Windows Media Player. On Windows, it
affects RealPlayer, RealOne Player, and Windows Media Player. PC/All.

URL was old so substituting one that shows the problem. The URL shows Windows
Media Player files. For RealPlayer and RealOne Player files go to an URL like
http://abcnews.go.com/ .

The symptoms are, go the URL with all the advanced scripting options enabled on
1.1 alpha trunk 2002070310 Windows 98, Windows Media Player 7.1, RealOne Player
6.0. Open the window to get an embedded plugin. Even though the player is
installed, see "Click here to get the plugin." Click there and a new window
opens. On the mtv.it site, a blank window opens. On the abcnews site, a window
opens to downloading the plugin, even though I have it installed. The Linux
behavior described in bug reports is similar.

I think this is a trunk only problem. I could be wrong, but I don't think it's a
problem on the branch.
OS: Linux → All
Summary: activeX media control bypassing realplayer play, stop, pause commands doesn't run on mozilla and it show me application/x-oleobject missing plugin, but it run perfectly on Windows. the problem affects only Linux → Real and Windows Media Player embedded plugin players broken
Yes, it's true, I've only tested on WinXP and it run, maybe on $hit98 doesn't
run.... tomorrow I'll check on W2K...

PS: I've Installed WMP on linux (with crossover/wine) then this isn't the
problem, but the problem with www.tf1.fr/video I think is the worste
Yes this is only on the trunk!
(but embeded WMP does not run on branch for me since so long, although it should
do (and only be broken on Win95 and NT))

on abc site mozilla asks me to save file or open it with realplayer (RealOne
indeed);does not seem to be an embeded video
but http://www.tf1.fr/video/ does not work on Win98 anyway
isn't there a bug about the issue moz can`t handle scriptable plugins?

P.S:@stephane my comments were not meant to blame you in anyway...(they were a
little towards others, but definitly not you)
@stephane:I did not mean you...
back to bug:
1.On Win98 Moz1.1builds do open videos at abcnews.go.com using RealOnePlayer
(their so called "Three-Pane-Enviroment" is used)
2.i discovered that embeded Realplayer is not completly broken it works if you
use smil or html, but fails if you script it(isn´t that a known issue?)
you can try it yourself by downloading the RealSystem iQ Prodcution Guide for
RealOne:
http://service.real.com/help/library/guides/realone/ProductionGuide/ZippedHTML/productionguide_030402.zip

you can see that it will work neither with wmp nor with RealOne @
www.tf1.fr/video (they do it by scripting)
3.but WMP will not work even if it is not scripted(for me) and shows the known
tested with
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=23592&action=view
oops!(sorry for the spam!)
Is this a dupe of bug 151074?
Good find. It looks that way, but in bug 151074, the testcase says that the
problem is with the file parameter used inside the embed tag. Using src inside
the embed tag is fine. In this bug, however, if you open one of the videos at
the URL, the problem shows up when src was used inside the embed tag. According
to bug 151074, that should be fine. Maybe these bugs are dupes nevertheless.
