User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0

Steps to reproduce:

Visited Preferences -> Calendar -> Categories in Thunderbird 60.0 (later versions cannot be used for the moment to display colors: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1534112)

Actual results:

Some entries have the same hex triplet color:

  • Multiple Categories: 3366ff -- "Multiple Categories" are not found in Preferences -> Calendar -> Categories but will be added by adding an event with two or more Categories.
  • Favorites: 3366ff
  • Ideas: 003333
  • Personal: 003333

Expected results:

The colors should be unique so they can distinguished.

Categories are colored so they can be distinguished.

Unfortunately they are missing from a installation of Thunderbird and Lightning started with a new profile.

Thanks. But even when this bug is fixed there will be duplicates of hex triplet colors which makes it impossible to distinguish them by eye.

They are unique. Did you look at the screenshot in the comment I posted?

Those are the 22 default Categories and their Colors that ship with Lightning before the breakage and most likely will be when bug 1534112 is fixed.

You will be able to edit them yourself by changing the color or saturation until you can distinguish them by eye.

Preferences > Calendar > Categories and use the Edit button.

In fact, as I found out when testing bug 1544287. You can just add whatever color you want for the categories you have now using that method. They may revert back to the default when bug 1534112 is fixed and Lightning updates.

"Personal" is not included in your screenshot. It uses the same hex triplet colors as the category "Ideas".

Favorites: 3366ff
Multiple Categories: 3366ff

Same issue here, "Multiple Categories" is not even listed though, you have to add an event with two or more Categories to take a screenshot on the event color.

This is a trivial issue, let's not waste more time on this. Please just let the issue be open please, I got other things to do.

Personal isn't listed because it comes after Meeting in the list of categories.

Actually the list continues with Miscellaneous, Personal, Projects, Public Holiday, Status, Suppliers, Travel and Vacation.

In my list.

Ideas: #003333
Personal: #003333

The user can change that color.

Definitely a nit and not worth filing a bug report for IMHO.

Hello again Walt. This duplication is not really valid:

  • Favorites: 3366ff
  • Multiple Categories: 3366ff

Because the "Multiple Categories" category color will be the same color as the first alphabetically selected category as you explained in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1544279#c1. "Multiple Categories" only has hex triplet color 3366ff (the same color as the calendar but slightly brigher) because the category colors are broken as described in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1534112

Half issue solved. Thanks.

"Multiple Categories" should still be added to Preferences -> Calendar -> Categories. I think the "Multiple Categories" category color should be either black (000000) or white (ffffff) since neither of them is occupied, because it's confusing that it has the same color as the color of the first alphabetically selected category.
