User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:66.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/66.0

Steps to reproduce:

At the bookmarks context (right-click) menu, I clicked accidentally "Delete" instead of "Sort by name" on a folder (unfortunately the exact below option)...

Actual results:

...the bookmarks folder is gone [quite expected result] :-(
And in case there isn't any bookmarks back-up: a complete disaster!

Expected results:

A confirmation warning dialog (just like the one when closing multiple tabs) should pop-up and ask if we really want to delete that item, though - thx.

Under the Organize button you can find the Undo (Ctrl+Z) menu item.

Firefox keeps 15 automatic bookmark backups by default, which you can restore from the Import and Backup button, Restore submenu. You can further increase the number of backups by going to about:config in the address bar and modifying the browser.bookmarks.max_backups preference.

Thank you very much for your quick reply.

  • Unfortunately, the "Undo" function is not available on the Bookmarks left sidebar [context menu], but only at the Bookmarks Library (Ctrl+Shift+B) and therefore not so obvious as a solution, than as an emergency solution...
Is there any chance to implement it on Bookmarks side-panel [context menu]?

  • Fortunately, except from these automatic backups, I create occasionally manual restore points, in case ...disaster hits ;-)
But, please inform me how many Undo (Ctrl+Z) restore points [not backup] are saved (since we may miss some accidental deletions etc.)

Thanks, in advance

:mak I'd appreciate it if you could double-check that the resolution is correct and address comment 2.

Undo/Redo lack...

Just have submitted corresponding bug at Bug 1549345.
-thx

Yes, the bug resolution is correct. In the past we got this complain more often and we added the ruler that currently separates delete from sorting.

As explained, we already provide ways to recover bugs in the same session (undo) or from old sessions (backups). I agree the system is not perfect, undo/redo is not much discoverable (I confirmed the other bug about it), and it's not possible to only partially import a backup. An add-on could maybe provide a solution to the latter.

OK, thank you very much ;-)
Of course, hope to implement such a function, cuz Ctrl+Z is a bit tricky (especially for new users) and the separator ruler has "no function" when using the keyboard in order to highlight the option.

Keep up da good work :-)
-thx again
