Now that we've shipped with this pref enabled by default, we should remove it as planned. User feedback for the new design will be evaluated and changes to the current design can be made accordingly. Not having to maintain the old design in parallel will make this easier.

Not maintaining the old design will make me leave Firefox behind for good. The web is full with rants against Mozilla’s history of stupid UI/UX changes. I know you don’t want to hear it. I know this isn’t the place to say it. I know you won’t listen. You won’t even believe there are many people not liking what you do to Firefox. I don’t care.

Firefox used to be a cool browser, efficient to use, comfortable, pleasant. It isn’t any more. Pitty.

On the other hand, it’s not privacy friendly either, even though Mozilla keeps telling it is. So, no benefits in using FF anyway. R.I.P.

Yeah, this is how upset people actually are because of Mozilla’s narrow-minded, insular, bullheaded decisions. Time for a new Mozilla.

I mean, just take the feature discussed here as an example: Why, in the name of all that’s holy, can’t we users have an URL bar, which allows you to set the text cursor where you need it by simply clicking into the text where you need the cursor? Can’t you see that there are not only frugal, indifferent users in this world, but power users and the like, too? From my experience I guess you won’t listen, but I’ll explain it nevertheless. Linux has that very shiny feature (several Linux desktops at least have it): You select text with the mouse. Now you can insert that text anywhere with a middle-click. That was upgraded by Firefox: You triple-click on any URL and middle-click into a tab, be it empty or not. Firefox loads the URL. Easy, fast, perfect. Now, when you click into the URL bar, everything is selected, but it can’t be inserted somewhere else. Why? I guess, because it’s not selected by the user, with the mouse. Mozilla sells that as a feature, Firefox now behaving the same as on Windows. I don’t want that stupid Windows behaviour! Why, do you think, am I using Linux?! You are introducing yet another inconsistency in UX by mimicking Windows UX under Linux. Absurd! Preposterous! How can people thinking of themselves as decent software developers—which I assume you do—not see this?

The URL bar in FF ESR 52.9.0 just does what it should. Stick to that. Make people a little happier. Evaluate this.
