According to bug 1486221 and the release notes of TB 76, a tray icon was implemented for windows.
This feature would also be great for Linux users.
The tray icon should keep Thunderbird running in the background and thus still provide notifications about new emails and calendar events.
I have tried to do some research to check, whether I can contribute some code, however I am unable to find the os integration in the source code. I've come as far as to find the code fragment, which seems to be responsible for the behavior (but also not really, since this only hides the window and does not seem to create the tray icon) but I can't find the definition of the used functions. Neither in comm-beta
, nor in mozilla-beta
. Where would this kind of behavior be implemented in the mozilla source code?
Hey m3p58, did you get any further with this? Shall we work together on it and try and contact the devs again for more help? I am not a coder as such but I can try and contribute by testing the solution.
