User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:77.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/77.0

Steps to reproduce:

Open an addon popup in a new tab (go to moz-extension://<addon-id>/popup/index.html) and change zoom level to some value other than the default (200% in my example). Open the popup of that addon, or view that addon in the side bar (if possible).

Actual results:

The content in the pop up and the sidebar does not zoom in or out, while content in the tab zooms correctly (changes to 200%).

Expected results:

The content in the pop up, the sidebar, and the tab all zoom to 200%.

Although this inconsistency is cosmetic, in some use cases it can make text in the popups too small or too big to be legible. People might argue addon popups should always stay at 100%, but if the user decides to change the default zoom level, he / she likely also wants the text in addon popups to be larger or smaller.

Bugbug thinks this bug should belong to this component, but please revert this change in case of error.

Hello,

I’ve managed to reproduce the issue on the latest Nightly (79.0a1/20200621093846), Beta (78.0b9/20200619002543), Release (77.0.1/20200602222727) and ESR (68.9.0esr/20200527211442) under Windows 10 Pro 64-bit and Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

Zooming will only affect the tab contents and not the pop-up or sidebar. Tested using Bitwarden and Tree Style Tabs. See the attached screenshot for further details.

I’ve also checked for a regression window from 01.01.2018 up until the current date and all builds are effected. Most probably the issue is not a regression and has existed since always.

I seem to recall discussion around this from eons ago. Extension UI is closer to browser UI than web UI. Browser UI sizing is handled different than content size (via zoom). I don't recall any decision on this, but sizing two seperate browser elements at the same time is probably not the right way to handle zoom. We probably need some UX input on this so we can have a direction to head with this.
