seen on windows commercial trunk build 2002-08-28-04-trunk
-open sidebar bookmarks tab
it is blank...
tab is unusable
-open Bookmarks | Manage Bookmarks
the window that opens is also blank...
bookmarks manager is unusable
I am just guessing that these are related. If they are seperate issues, let me
know and I'll split one off into another bug.

This is happening in classic skin only. Both sidebar bookmarks and bookmarks
manager work fine in Modern theme. Reducing to critical. Workaround is to use
modern theme.

Severity: critical → blocker

Note: Tracy *did* reduce the severity to Critical. It was then changed by
dgk@metrocast.net back to Blocker status without any Comment. (See Bug Activity.)

For the record, I didn't change the status from Critical to Blocker. I just
added my eMail to the cc list. The status change must have been caused by a
mid-air collision btw TWalker and I (not that Bugzilla told me about it).

as of commercial trunk builds:
windows 2002-08-29-04-trunk
linux 2002-08-29-04-trunk
mac os9 2002-08-29-03-trunk
This appears fixed with new profiles and profiles created with recent builds.
However migrated 4.x profiles still exhibit this in classic skin.
changed summary to reflect this
I can't recall if theme switching is an accepted workaround. If not, this would
be a blocker.
Summary: Bookmarks manager and sidebar bookmarks tab blank (unuasable) → Bookmarks manager and sidebar bookmarks tab blank with migrated profile in classic theme

MacOS X 10.2, appears to be the same bug
During the "popup blocker crash bug" I used latest-1.1 builds instead of
latest-trunk. Last night I downloaded 2002082808. Ever since then, the Manage
Bookmarks... window has been blank, and appears at a size of 2048x(larger than
768). Just to be sure, I deleted all of my prefs, no change.

Still seeing this in 20020828908 trunk WinXP.
It appears that if you start with a new profile (I deleted my Application
Data\Mozilla folder and started Mozilla), then the bookmarks tab is blank. You
can workaround this by switching to Modern -- then when you switch back to
Classic you can see the bookmarks tab.

This is a very good workaround. Worked for Mac OS 9.1
Comment 14•22 years ago

Once again, my workaround is to use latest-1.1 instead. :-(

Interesting observation (Linux). I could not use bookmarks. I changed to the
ugly modern theme, changed something and went back. Now I can again use
bookmarks in classic theme.

ben, are you going to be able to help us with this? Anyone that's seeing this,
can you please try to determine which was the first build to have this regression?

I have not seen this with recent trunk builds. It seems to have gone away on
commercial builds, at least.

WFM since 2002090108 trunk win2k again
Comment 21•22 years ago

WFM. To test, I installed 1.1 release. The error showed up after replacing that
version with a trunk build. Then I installed (after simple uninstall, no manual
deletion) Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.1b) Gecko/2002090504. No
problem with bookmarks.

Can anyone still reproduce this?
Comment 23•22 years ago
|

FYI, I'm using a third party theme "Pinball" and am having problems with the
sidebar as well. The Manage Bookmarks works fine. I've only used standard
releases, upgrading with each release since AT LEAST 0.99 ...
I tried switching back to modern, still no bookmarks in my sidebar :(

On Linux using Netscape 7, I consistently see this behavior. I'm not reporting
this as a Mozilla bug since I'm using Netscape on Linux, but I wanted to provide
my feedback anyway.
Peace.....
