User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; Win64; x64; rv:78.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/78.0

Steps to reproduce:

Open http://www.popuptest.com/popuptest1.html

Actual results:

  • Popup blocked notification bar is displayed

Issues:

  • the whole page "shifts" downwards, meaning that every link that was clicked before is no longer below the mouse and the cursor has to be repositioned
  • the yellow bar takes alot of (sparse) vertical space while not using 90% of the available horizontal space
  • seems hard to maintain, because lots of follow-up bugs are caused by the bar (overlapping on Android, linebreak issues...)
  • the prominent yellow look feels out of place & unfiitting for Photon
  • if "privacy.popups.showBrowserMessage" is set to false (or a user accidentially clicks hide), there's only the icon in the toolbar. That's suitable from GUI perspective, but unsable, because it only offers the option to open all popups at once. It offers no "settings" button that is usually in the notificiation bar to open just the last popup.

Expected results:

Opera / Chrome style approach like in the attached video, that fixes all above issues and even gurantees attention by a smooth animated icon in the adress bar.

  • in addition, there are phishing sites that utilize the notification bar, because there's no way for the user to differentiate if the bar comes from the browser or a site

the icon in the toolbar [is] unusable, because it only offers the option to open all popups at once.

Bug 1422975

Indeed, would be interesting what changes introduced this new icon in version Firefox 58. Propably this was changed to use the new UI.

However, the UI is totally inconsistent anyway: the firefox menu on the right uses scrollbars for overflow, while the bookmark icon uses nice looking arrows without scrollbars, that could also be used for the popup icon and long list of popups.

Wonder if this was ever checked by UX.

Hi, I will add product and component to this since has been marked as an enhancement.
